Waitaminute....WR

The Knot checklist is telling me I should send invites out 3 months/12 weeks before the wedding.  I always thought it was 8 weeks out.  Halp?

  • I always thought it was 6-8 weeks. At three months I would have a lot of trouble knowing my schedule.
  • I think 8-10 weeks is appropriate, depending on if you've sent STDs and/or your guests have to make travel arrangements. Personally, I think 3 months is quite a lot of notice. I'd stick with 8.

  • Yeah, we were planning on 8 weeks.  3 months seems a little much for me.

  • I did 8 weeks and I think that people had plenty of time to make travel plans (but I also used STDs).  I stopped using the TK checklist when I was planning because it kept making me freak out.
  • I just checked out the checklist too and saw that! We are doing ours about 9 weeks out, but I'm anxious to get them out.

Yeah.  I'm freaking out a little.

Our venue needs the count 3 days before the wedding, so it's not a big deal either way.

  • The Knot Checklist drives me crazy.  I so desperately want to check everything off because I love to do that and feel accomplished, but it's giving me stuff to do that I'm just not ready for.

  • 8 weeks sounds good to me! We sent ours out at 6 weeks (since we had sent STDs and our venue needed a final count a week beforehand), and then our venue changed after we sent the invites and we had to send out postcards to inform our guests. Funfun.

And btw, I'm impressed that you're using TK checklist. Between things we weren't planning on doing and the things we didn't have time to do until much later than "scheduled" - my list started to look super scary pretty quick-like. All kinds of overdue things kept piling up.
  • I need to abandon it, but it keeps drawing me back in.  I'm convinced I'm going to forget something.

Ugh, I just want it to be over already.

  • Yeah, I think I'm just in that crappy stage where the whole excitement of being engaged has totally worn off, but the fun stuff hasn't started yet.  So I'm just beating myself up about getting stupid stuff done early so I won't have to deal with it later...it sucks.  Gah.

This is why I keep an eye on the checklist, I'm terrified I'm going to forget something. I was relieved to realize though there was nothing there I had forgotten.

  • I hate the knot's checklist.  I refuse to look at it.  I stick with Wedding Wire's checklist.  It makes me happier.

FI wants to send our invites out NOW.  I refused.  I told him 8 weeks would make me happier, but I'd mail them 10 weeks out if it would shut him up.  :)

  • I never used TK checklist. I looked at it, but it was way too overwhelming.

  • I think TK is giving you the safe option, but 8 weeks sounds like plenty, unless you have a DW and didn't sent STDs. Our wedding was small (70 ppl) and we pretty much knew who was coming by the time we sent invites out at 7-8 weeks.
