facebook virus question

I have a question, I'm pretty sure I'm safe but I'm paranoid bc this happened on my work computer today.

Someone invited me to a weight loss group, it was the kind of group where you "attend, decline or ignore"

I clicked decline. However, I did look inside the invitation.

Then later the girl who invited me updated her status that it was virus and don't open it.

Do you think I'm okay?

    What do facebook viruses DO?
  • No, your computer is going to explode and tiny little spiders are going to come running out and fill your home.

That sounds AWFUL. I hope to god a computer virus like that is never created.
  • Run a virus scan? That's the only thing I could think of, as a double-check.

  • gahh gross!

I was googling it and it apparently steals your passwords or something.

I messaged someone (LC actually) to see if I had sent her anything and she said no.  I'm just overly paranoid bc it happened at work.  That would be my luck.

  • Oh good! That's promising, at least.

Can you check your sent messages too and see if anything weird went out? I know my friend's FB was "hacked" and there was definitely stuff in her sent box that she didn't send out. If there's not, you might be in the clear!

  • nothing weird in there! phew!

I think I'm in the clear.  My mind just wanders.

  • This happened to me. A friend sent me a youtube video link but when I opened it, my Norton Antivirus thing came up and said it just blocked a virus. A few seconds later, the friend changed his status to...Don't open that video...its a virus!! If you have a good antivirus program, you should be fine. The virus will mess with our account and send all of your friends the same virus and other random things.
  • One of our teachers got something like this...while at work...She sent out a school wide email talking about how she got a facebook virus on the school network while communicating with her students...

    1) Facebook is blocked on our network, so she went around the filter BAD
    2) Having a facebook account with student access BAD
    3) Doing anything on a school network with viruses BAD
  • well at least its not blocked, and all my work was done, its not like I was busy.

  • Change your FB password.   most of those viruses are spam viruses so when they steal your password they hack in and send it to everyone else.  Changing your password should help
Image and video hosting by TinyPic Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • You should be fine (don't hold me to that though)...if the group you went to looked like a normal facebook group I'm sure it was okay. Maybe there was a link inside the group that some people clicked that was the virus?
  • Woo! No virus!
