WWYD?

My guest count is due at the venue in a week. I just found out via Facebook that my 18 year old's cousins girlfriend broke up with him. The two of them are on again off again every few weeks. (I know this because of the public FB fights they have. lovely)
So, do I:
a) send in the guest count minus his date.
b) keep her on the list counting on them getting back together.
c) keep a 'guest' for him in case they dont get back together but he ends up bringing someone else. everyone 18+ was invited with a guest.
d) OTHER - please explain.
WWYD?

Re: WWYD?

  • What did his RSVP say?  If he said he's coming alone, he should honor that but if I were in your pretty bridal shoes, I'd leave her in my count JIC.

  • e) ask him if he is still bringing her. if no, then a.

  • I would talk to his mom and try to find out that way.  Why pay for a meal that won't get eaten?!
  • I stressed over this far too much leading up to the wedding.  SEVERAL people who RSVPd with a plus one wound up coming alone, with all sorts of stories and excuses.  FOUR first cousins backed out days before the wedding because of a lax game and  a softball game.  Knowing them, I had planned on something like this happening and adjusted my count before it even happened.  You know your family best- if you think they'll be back together, give him the plus one and hope he brings someone so the money and plate aren't wasted.  I would also be honest with him- he's only 18 and likely doesn't know how stressful and expensive these things are, and how many details ride on your exact count.  Explain that you need to know for sure by X day, and it cannot be changed once it's submitted- your guests will be paid for well before the wedding day, and he cannot decide that morning if they are "on" or "off".
  • I would probably count a date in the final total, but I agree with the PP who mentioned that several people who RSVP will not show up.  It's a little infuriating since you do end up overpaying, and sometimes it's very inconsiderate (although there are legitimate reasons some people can't make it: work, illness, etc.), but you'd be surprised how many people don't even think about the fact that you pay by the person.

    Call your cousin.

I wouldn't rely on anything you see on FB regarding relationship status. It's about as reliable as Myspace, lol.

  • I would error on the no side.  M ost venuse make a persentage extra for unexpected people
  • Leave her in the count, because one extra chicken and place set isn't going to kill you as much as the embarresment if she does come last mintune and doesn't have a seat and food

Not necessarily. Our head count was 70, and our venue contract outlined a fee if we were to exceed 70, and we had a buffet style meal.
