Oh Sarah #s....

34 to go...

So, tell me about Italy?  We got to see "David" too.  Did you notice his hands were out of proportion?  It's the first thing we noticed.  Although ashamed, I will admit, I had no idea it was David of David and Goliath.

We also got to go to see The Mona Lisa and the Venus di Milo!

    Hmm, me either.
  • I would love to see David. Art history was my minor in college, so I actually did know his hands are huge, in relation to the rest of it. And I also really want to see the Pieta.

  • I really want to see the Vatican. I was raised Catholic, and although I don't identify with it so much any more, there's still so much history there.
  • Yeah, everyone was all, Oh you need to go over and get tickets for a viewing time, etc.  Made it seem lie a general PITA, so we went to see what the deal was with tickets and there was a "no ticket" line.  We waited about 15 minutes to get in...

Dude, I disagree with just about every doctrine and principal of the Catholic faith, but man, those people knew how to build churches.

The churches through out Europe were amazing.  As H liked to say "no hill or valley is complete without one"

We noticed the churches in France were kind of "meh" from the outside, but when you went in they were amazingly beautiful while the churches in Italy were (mostly) amazingly beautiful on the outside and "meh" on the inside.

  • I'm still here.  I clearly have no life.

Interesting to know the reason behind the hands.

So...tell me more.  Where did you go, what did you eat?  What else did you see.

    33 more to go!

I agree - we went when we were in Italy.  It was beautiful.  <div>We started a vacation fund - it's really just a bank, I throw money in it whenever I can - it's not a lot at a time, but eventually it adds up.  We had a garage sale, threw $400 in there, sold a few things on Craigslist, threw a few hundred more.  I just brought change into the bank and got $50.  Whenever I clean out my purse and find a few bucks - into the bank.  We really want to go to South Africa for our next big trip, so that will help us get there :)</div>

  • Hm, I went to Florence, Rome, and Naples, and I pretty much did all the major art-related stuff in all three places. In Florence, that meant the Uffizi, the Bargello, the Accademia, and a crapload of churches. In Rome, too many to mention: all four Museo Nazionale sites, the Vatican (three times), the Castel Sant'Angelo, Ostia Antica, Hadrian's villa at Tivoli, churches, churches, and more churches, the Forum, the Palatine... you name it. Naples was way awesomer than I thought, and I saw Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mt. Vesuvius, the other volcano at Solfatera, and a bunch of museums.

I ate... lots and lots of pizza and pasta. And Chinese food a few times. I know I'm weird. :)

  • KJ, we do the same thing.  Our next two "big" trips are 1) anywhere in South America by my 50th b'day and H wants to go to Anartica by his 50th. That way we can say we've been on all seven continents together.  We've already been to five, but I have to say, I don;'t really seeing the Anartic happening (even though we are close).  H starts whining when it gets to 32...

That's awesome. I think we're going to start doing that as soon as the wedding is over and we're not saving every penny for that. We really want to go to France so that we can go to a country where we actually sort of speak the language, rather than Italy where I got by on basically three phrases.

  • Chinese food is not weird.  There were only two places we ate out in France.  The Chinese buffet place and the most awesome Italian restaurant that was down the street from us.

Because I cook Italian at home, H was pretty disappointed with the food we had in Italy.  We both still swear that the best Italian food we've ever had was in France. The food in Sicily was even better than the food in Italy.

Thank you thank you thank you for saying that. I had overall rather crummy food in Italy. I had some really great dinners at a hostel in Florence that had a four course dinner and breakfast special, but then in Rome I had pretty bad food most of the time, probably because I was only hitting the tourist places. In Naples, though, the pizza was utterly fantastic. There's a reason Naples is famous for its pizza. :)

Not bad at all. I didn't have any problems in Rome or Naples, and man did people try to scare me about going to Naples before I went.

I'd say that Rome is pretty much comparable to NYC when it comes to crime, meaning that of course you want to keep your wits about you and your purse pinned close to your side when you're on the subway. But if you're smart and you take precautions, you have nothing to worry about.

Haha, I think off topic is the point, because I'm trying to get my gold badge tonight. :)

The tuxedo kitty is Abby, and the black one is Jelly Bean. Lately, though, I've been calling them both "boober" for some reason. Not sure where this is coming from.

No dress yet, alas, although I'm going to start looking soon. It's a little complicated because if I look out here, I will go by myself, and I can't trust myself not to buy something weird on my own, I think. I'm probably going to try to look Thanksgiving weekend when I'm back in NJ.

For me, I think it's just that I'm used to being an American with every cuisine choice under the sun available to me. Five days of pasta, and all I could think about was Indian and Mexican food. It was kind of sad.

So many people on here have lovely ones. I really like the one that Beatles had - I'm also pretty pro V-neck.

This was the dress that got me thinking I like lace:

I don't think I was ever really going for a short dress, although I am planning on removing the train from any dress I get. I figure I only get one chance in my life to wear a long white ball gown.
