formula 1 race

This has nothing to do with wedding, but I'm at a loss since there isn't much on google. Also on my cell, so I apologize if it comes out ugly.

I'm going to the races is Austin this weekend and have tickets to the VIP room. This is not to be confused with THE VIP for celebrities and girlfriends of drivers and royalty. It's just one up above general admission. still, it's intimidating to know people like that are in the area.

I've never been to an F1 race and was hoping if anyone on here has can tell me what the heck to wear. Not sure if my ticket status makes a difference. All I can find on Google is pictures of the celebrities and gf of drivers. Everyone thing I've read says wear comfortable shoes and to dress comfortably. To me comfortable is yoga pants and work out shoes. And I also read that day 1 is casual, day 2 is more dressy and day 3 is dressy. And also I've read this isn't Nascar, so it has to be "classy."

Any help is welcome. please be nice as I'm desperate.

Re: formula 1 race

  • You are correct, Formula 1 crowds are nothing like NASCAR crowds, espcially VIP. Yes, were shoes you can walk in, but wear nicer comfortable shoes, not your running shoes if you can. Like say ballerina flats over your worn out running shoes. Nice pants/jean and cute top.

You will see people there dressing pretty stylish, and you will probably even see a few women going around in very high heels and totally made up for the day. I'm not saying dress up like for a night on the town, a nice pair of jeans, cute top & decent pair of shoes & you'll probably be fine.

    Have fun!!

  • Formula 1 is an amazing event, I'm so jealous you have tickets!  I was not a car-racing kind of girl until FI introduced me to it.  The cars are incredible, the noise of F1 cars is so distinctive, you'll never forget it.  Austin is a great town, if you get a chance, hit La Condessa for Ahi Tuna Tostadas and amazing Ceviche!  Parkside is great too, and don't forget Salt Lick for the most amazing BBQ ever, it was on Man vs. Food.

If you are going to be anywhere near the cars, like the pits or the paddocks, you'll want to wear closed-toed shoes.  Don't be afraid to doll yourself up and wear something fun, this is a Ferrari crowd, not a Chevy crowd.  For casual, wear skinny jeans and a fun top.  For your 'dressy' event, don't be afraid to wear a cute dress.

Again, so jealous, have a wonderful time!

  • Thank you both for the input. We picked up our tickets this morning and the woman advised me to dress for comfort and not to put so much stress on the dressy since usually that more for the A list in the suites. We actually live in Austin so I wanted to represent us well, and America. I agree with you on most the places, however I disagree on Salt Lick. I think it's WAY over rated. You should check out Franklins. We actually passed by there and We estimated 200 people in line. I'm sure that's a lot of race crowds but still. Again, thanks ladies!
