Thoughts on Second Cousins?

Both my fiance and myself have VERY large families...I'm talking my mom has seven brothers and sisters who all have 2-8 kids of their own and my fiance's father's family is the same way. Catholic families, right?

We are both pretty close to all of our cousins (I have 40+ including their spouses/SO and my fiance has 35+ including spouses/SO) and have no thought of not inviting them. My plan is to invite all of my first cousins.

However, with such a large family, I just don't have the budget nor the reception space to invite all their children! It is an awful thought because we are a close knit family, (even though I have not met half of their children) but when you don't have the money nor space, you dont have it.

I'm just dreading to hear the uproar from my family. It is not a no children wedding, being that our niece and two nephews are attending as well as my first cousins that are still children, so I'm sure I will hear backlash. Since we are rather young, most of my friends do not have children, but I wouldn't be able to afford to invite them if they had them anyways.

Thoughts? I am really dreading when the invitations go out and are only addressed to my cousins. Maybe I'm just venting here.....
