Yay for your birthday! Momentous day indeed.

DNB, I haven't read all the way through that stupid thread - does she ever give a reason why it is so necessary to get married legally right away?

  • That is total bs. I get the reasons for wanting two weddings, but to lie to your guests...that's low.  And to clarify, I only understand if it's religious/military/immigration related

Immigration. But he's already in the US apparently. So I don't really know why it's so dire to get married right this second.

  • I don't really even understand any situation.  b/c the thing is that you can plan a wedding in a week.

yeah I don't get that at all.  It sounds like a living together situation to me.

  • Andy, I don't get it either. This "experience" is one that I would've been ok skipping, quite frankly. I'm grateful for my wedding, and I'm excited about it, but it's not so important that I would go get married, then have a re do.

  • Because he lives 3 hours away in another state, and his visa is through his work.  So if they get married his visa would be through her, and he could quit his job to live with her.  It has absolutely nothing to do with immigration issues.  Its selfishness issues.

Well, with Wicca you have to be spiritually handfasted for at least year before you can get legally married.  So sugar and I had a small ceremony with just our circle two years before the day of our wedding next year.  Our wedding is going to be a smallish celebration of our legal ceremony, but to the religion it will just be a vow renewal.  That's why I understand some issues.
    Edit:clarification

  • and why can't she move there?  So the solution is for him to quit his job, have a fake wedding and then plan a PPP day?  Sounds like a PERFECT idea.

  • Hm. I can think of some immigration situations where it would make sense to get married right away, but I don't see why this one is so dire. I feel like FI and I made it through quite a lot of LDR to get to where we are now, and six months of difference isn't all that much.

  • Wow, that's all sorts of ridiculous.

I'm enjoying the one time in our married life that H will probably ever do any housecleaning.  We just unpacked our brand new Dyson, so he's happily vacuuming the house.  Boys and toys.  Why is it that starting tomorrow, he'll likely never turn on the vacuum again?

Because he has to use it because it's new.  Then he'll decide it has no apeal because it's used and not fun anymore

  • Righ, but then you're married. You play the cards you are dealt.  If that's your decision, that's great.  But people who run around thinking they can lie about it and still do it the way they really want really bother me.
I don't really give a damn if people want to have a second party - just be honest about it.
Like you said, Sarah, it's not a dire situation.  IMO, she should be thankful that they both have jobs at the moment.

  • Yeah like I said that thread is just full of stupid.

Amber- you're kind of doing the opposite though, since you aren't legally married yet, you're only married in the eyes of your religion, and need that in order to get legally married.

Mica- haha my H was the same way when we got our new vaccuum with the pet hair attachment.

  • Hi All.

I keep trying to play along and then you all send me off on random threads!

I'm trying to find the one over on ML.  Anyone have a link?

  • That's exactly what H is doing.  My dog is a shed monster, and the carpet was gross with dog hair.

The funny thing is we have a maid coming tomorrow.  So that's why I wasn't bothering to vacuum.  But H must try out all attachments, etc.  I guess the maid'll have an easier first visit than originally planned.
  • dn-I know that's why I said that I only understand in a few circumstances.

  • H is watching the MNF game, and I don't think I've hated anyone as much as I hate Michael Vick.  And all the praise and glofirication of his is making me angry.  I still believe once you are convicted of a felony, you should be banned for life.

  • Agreed KJB.  Throw all the freaking parties you want.  I'll side-eye if you wear a wedding gown to them and do traditional wedding things at a vow-renewal, but just call it what it is.  Don't lie to your guests, and especially to your friends and family.

And honestly, I'll never understand the justification for the military without thinking its because of the money or the benefits.  Yeah, H and I could have ran to the JOP right after we got engaged, and then collected a ton more BAH, and saved money on me paying for insurance.  But its not the right thing to do.

I'm firmly in the you need to pick one or the other camp. I don't know why I'm so unbending on this, but I loathe the concept of vow renewals. Vows don't expire, therefore you don't need to renew them.

Nope.  I just ventured over there to try and find it, and got scared off because I don't recognize a single name over there.  Seriously I come here for the people and the entertainment, I don't need to go there.

I keep having this argument with my dad. He's still a fan of the green team, and I really feel like I can't be right now. My current stand is that if the Green Team is going to employ convicts as players, maybe they should also get Plaxico Burress, and why stop at players? There are lots of other convicts who also need jobs, and they could staff the entire Linc. Kind of a necessary service.

  • The only vow renewal I've been to was my aunts, and they had that because they had gone through some tough things, to the point where they almost got divorced.  But they worked their way through it and had a big vow renewal.  I thought it was beautiful.

Haha especailly after only like 6 months.  I don't think people will ever stop having receptions later when they can afford it, but just don't call it a wedding.  All these brides are referring to their actual wedding day as the day they sign papers.  No idiots, its your freaking wedding day.

I love all the ones that say they aren't considered legally married in the church's eyes until its performed in the church.  Okay well if you're lying to people and cheating the government, then i really don't think Jesus is too worried about you being married in the church.

  • H is watching MNF too.  Michael Vick might be an amazing FB player, but his actions are/were disgusting, and I am happy when the crowds boo him.  He doesn't deserve to be celebrated after what he's done.

To distract you from unhappy football player/dog thoughts, here's some happy doggie silliness:
