I'm sorry I am posting this very common question; I did a few searches and couldn't find a thread from our board.
What is the easiest way to change my name? Can I go from the SS office to DMV, etc.? Does anyone have a checklist handy?
I'm planning to take a day off from work to get this done once and for all. Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA!

[QUOTE]One interesting thing I JUST found out (and I changed my name in December!) Make sure you change your name for any company that will provide you with a tax document. I have an annuity account that I was making some changes to and realized I hadn't changed my name, but I wondered if it was a problem since I kept my maiden name as a middle name (I can still cash checks made out to my maiden name). The very helpful woman told me that if any tax document doesn't match the name on your tax return the IRS could make a stink. Yeah, that's something I'd like to avoid!

Yes, I recently encountered that. I applied for car insurance & they kept rejecting me because my new name doesn't match my name on my credit report. I called the bureaus and they said that they can't change my name in their system because there is still a credit reporting company that has me under my old name. I haven't tracked it down yet, but I think it's a Credit Union that I have a small CD at. Until EVERY company reports you with your new name, it doesn't change on your credit report.

[QUOTE]How many copies of the ML do you think we need? I was curious about this because I don't know who is going to require one when I need to change my name on everything.

[QUOTE]I actually did the DMV first. You'll need a copy of your ML. I then went to the SS office and changed it without any problems. If you go to the SS office you only need to show the ML, if you do it through the mail you have to mail it in.

I just moved to Hoboken, where is the DMV or SS office you went to? Thank you!
