NWR: Closing Today!! Question??

We are closing on our first home today!! i am so excited!my question to those of you who just recently went through this.....did you get your keys at closing? they are telling us we have to wait until the deed is filed. most people i have spoken to said that they never had to do that.

Hey Amanda, YAY!!!! & Congrats on the closing. I know you are so excited. As for the keys we didnt get ours at closing. We did our closing & then went back & met with the builder for some things & got keys then. But good luck. Email me later & let me know how things go!

we got ours at closing. there is something about a three day rule that they may be talking about. i think they don't file the deed for three days because in the state of nc you have three days to actually back out of the deal once signed. i'm not 100% sure of this but I think i'm close.

Good luck!  We did not get our keys at closing.  Got them later that day once the closing/deed was formally 'recorded'.  I think the decision to do that is up to the individual builder/seller, etc -- just how much of a stickler they want to be about the law.

yay!!! we are homeowners AND we have keys!!!!   evidently, it is sellers discretion and has something to do with filing the deed but we have keys!!!!!   i can go play in my new house tonight!!!! ha ha yay!!!
