another mariage license question

Although we'll be residing in NJ, the church we're marrying in is in Manhattan.
Where do we get a license? NJ or NY? Does it even matter?

I know I need to ask my priest about this but I figured I'd pick your brains first instead of waiting until Sunday and then forgetting to ask (like i always do)

You apply for your marriage license in the town which you're getting married in.

i was told you apply for your marriage license in the town the bride resides in

Actually, you APPLY in the town you (or one of you) lives in.
After the wedding, you PICK IT UP (or get it mailed from) the town in which the ceremony took place.
So it doesn't matter where you WILL live... what matters is where you live NOW.
    Good luck! =)

I think Heather is right but to be sure call your local  town clerk and ensure that you can fle the license sent from NYC.  I wouldn't just go based on what the officiant says since you're dealing with two State governments.

We got ours in the town we live in and will have to pick it up in Berkeley Heights when we need it.  Call your town first before you go trapesing around the tri-state area. :)
