"show and go" pricing - what to pay for someone to set up a slide show and projector??

Hi again,

You all were truly TRULY helpful in my last post about uplighting, so i hope this is also an easily answered question

our venue does not have a projector screen, so we need to rent one.  We are going to use it to show our photo slideshow and then the "love story" that we filmed. The whole thing will probably last 10 -15 min and will be at the very beginning of the ceremony as a way to introduce us.  Our videographer is putting together the slideshow and video.

because neither the videographer or venue own giant projector set-ups, we need to rent.  The entertainment company where we got our band (also the ones who offered uplighting) said we could have a "show and go" team come for $1750.  for that price they would set up the projector, show it....and then go.

i feel like that is a LOT of money for 15 min.  does anyone have any experience with this?? i know dj companys also offer this type of set up, so i am looking for recommendations if anyone has any.  I tried doing research online, but there are so many and i prefer personal recs.  thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still boggled by things like this. A 15 minute slide show takes more than that to 1) load up the equipment, 2) drive out to you, 3) set up the equipment, 4) test the equipment, 5) do the show, 6) break down the equipment, 7) pack it all back up in the car, 8) drive back to where they're from.

It's not like they just show up out of thin air and everything is magically set up and ready to go and they work for ONLY 15 minutes and then *poof* they're gone. Not only that, if they're there working for you, they can't be somewhere else making money.

The same thing could be said for other vendors.  Ceremony musicians, for example.  So while I agree with you in principle, I wouldn't pay $1750 for a 15-minute slide show, because that simply would not have been in my budget.

Not true at all - they are from the same company as the band and they all work together.  Even if they are there for 3 hours total, inclulding travel time and setting up, thats still far too much money in my opinon.

I am not asking them to stay around for the entire day, be at my beck and call, do some elaborate fire and ice routine and get paid $100.  I am simply asking if anyone has a better rate.  But thanks for your non-answer.  It was really appreciated.  really.

Ddiner, I realize that I didn't answer your question either.  I did not have video projection, although the DJ company we used offered it at a higher price point (it would have been a good deal, we just weren't interested.)  It sounds like the a la carte pricing from the entertainment company you are using is pretty high (judging by your posts about the uplighting and now the video projection) but hopefully someone will chime in with something more useful to you.

@jcg my response certainly wasnt aimed at you! I am not expecting people to blow sunshine up my bum in their responses, but you validated my concern that it seems very high, considering the prices other brides were paying for other portions of their ceremony.

No worries.  :)  I think in the long run it comes down to what you want and if it's in your budget.  It sounds like you have put some time and effort into the "love story" video you want to show.  I honestly don't know that another company will offer a better deal than $1750 to provide the service.  Does your venue have any recommendations?  If they ever host corporate events they have probably had people bring in projectors and such.

  • Not basing my response on the price. Price is something that you're comfortable paying. So, I'm not in a position to tell you if $1700 is too much or too little.

It's the thought that you're only paying for 15 minutes of their time. That's what my response was for.
  • My DJ company was charging an arm and a leg for that considering that they were going to be there anwyay DJ'ing my wedding.

I decided to just buy one of those digital picture frames and will put as many pictures as I want instead of being limited and will keep that on our escort card table.

I LOVE this idea.  The slide show thing wasn't for us as we are too old and didn't want to take away from the party, but it was on my wish list to have some sort of picture display.  We did a few in frames.  GiGi... why didn't you get married before me?? <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

    Wow, I should change professions!

Seriously though, I could never imagine spending that much for a 15 minute slideshow.  I also think a 15 minute slideshow about the two of you before the ceremony is rather long.  If you have the money to spend though, go for it!
  • They guys that did my wedding gave me a great deal. I know they DJ'd it and probably gave me a better rate but I guess it's worth giving it a shot and calling them. They're so nice to work with. Go to www.newjerseyweddingdj.com. Good luck!!
