Pregnant Bridesmaid

Hey Ladies --

I have a question that I'm wondering if any knows the answer or has dealt with this. I am currently about 3 months pregnant. I am in a friend's wedding next September (obvi wont be pregnant for wedding), but she wants to start looking for BM dresses in November.

Assuming I am showing by then...how do I get fitted for my dress? Has anyone had experience with this before? Will the store know what to do? i would like to assume I'd go back to my regular weight after the baby but who knows! Due in May, wedding in Sept.

All I'm reading about online when I google pregnant BM is maternity BM dresses lol.

Any tips or advice would be great! Thanks!

That's a tough one... I'd measure myself now and I'd order one size up from where I am now, just in case you don't lose all the pregnancy weight by the wedding, it's easier to take a dress in than to let it out.

    hi laura =)

i agree with pp. measure yourself now and go one size up. you might not be showing if you go shopping in early november so it might turn out to only be one size up from where you are now.

That is a conundrum! I would say order a dress one or two sizes larger than your "normal" weight.  Things can ALWAYS be taken in (though some styles are harder than others, so the bride may want to take that into account when choosing. If it puts your mind at ease, call an alterations department of a store and ask them what they suggest. They likely run into this a lot and may have suggestions!

    Congrats on the baby!!!!

I agree with PPer's. Definitely measure yourself now and see where you are falling size wise and order the dress a size or two up from that. You'll have sometime after having the baby to lose the weight, but in case you don't lose it all you have some wiggle room or material to pull in if needed.

I would order two sizes up. You will only be about 2-4 months post partum (since you aren't showing now and won't be until next month I'm guessing its really early) so 2-4 months isn't much time at all to get back to your normal self. Plus if you are BFing you will need extra room for the boobs!

Like the others said, try to go get measured now.  I am just over 13 weeks pregnant and I am already showing quite a bit...in the last week, I have really popped...so you may not have much time depending on how quickly you start showing.    I would order 2 sizes up and ask if they would be able to take it in depending on how much weight you lose afterwards.

Defintiely get measured ASAP and go a size up or two. My friend was pregnant when she got measured and they ordered her one size up because she is tiny and they figured she would probably return to her normal size, but better safe than sorry because it is eaiser to take in a dress than to let it out. More than your body, I would worry about the boobs because sometimes those suckers get bigger than everything else and you don't want them to be constricted...lol

I would get measured ASAP as well.  You may want to even over the next size up.  My SIL just gave birth (well, a month before) when she got measured for her dress.  Even at the time of the wedding, 6 months later, she was still 1 size larger then she was pre-pregnancy.  It is easier to take a dress in then it is to let it out.

And congrats on your bundle of joy!

I have the same situation with one of my bridesmaids.  The store told me to have her get measured now and bring the measurements with her when we go shopping and they will order either that size or 1 size up.
