Opposing/Different sports teams couples - how do you cope?

...Because FI has already barricaded himself in the dressing room once already this evening, brought me chocolate as a peace offering, and piled pillows around himself in defensive positions.

(He's a Yankees fan. We've also had a terrible losing skid since he wore a Yankees hat to my Phillies' Citizens Bank Park.)

This wasn't a problem until last year - my team had never been good when his team was good.

Remind me that murder creates problems.

:P

We really like the same teams except, I like the Yankees and he likes the Mets...but since the Mets have been terrible llately it hasn't been an issue.  It is actually funny at times when they are playing each other because we are both screaming at the TV...LOL

I feel for you!  He is a Yankee fan and I am a Mets fan.  We were both raised to HATE the other team.  Our biggest concern is how to raise the children, he laughs and says there is no way in he!! the kids will like the Mets, I feel we should either allow them to choose or I get the girls and he gets the boys.  Wow it is really sad that we have had more in depth conversations about our future kids fandom than their religion!

rachael - we have that argument all the time! FI's brother is a yankee fan though so i always tell him he is out numbered. i know my family will pile on the yankee stuff so i'm not worrie about that. i also told him the kid will prob like whatever team is good because he won't want to like a losing team!

At one point, I had FI in a vow of silence against football, because his best friend and myself were both Eagles fans (I've since sworn off football since the jerkfaces traded my McNabby).

Still, we had agreed for me to get the girls and he to get the boys, but after last fall... I'm the bitter fan with a chip on my shoulder, and FI has to defend himself.

Grar. The sad part is that I used to root for the Yankees in the postseason (my mother is still, not-so-secretly a Yankees fan... she dealt with the Phillies stuff while my parents were still married, but now she just laughs... when she remembers to care about baseball), but after we finally won something, I stopped caring. Now I'm just frustrated! Truly, we haven't played well since I took FI to the Phillies game! It's all his fault!

Silly sports. I think the worst part is that FI is a typical smug fan and just laughs at me. I don't want to go back to losing all the time! It stunk!

    Let's see...I'm yankees he's phillies
    I'm giants, he's eagles.

Our house is constantly WWIII when sports are on.  It's even worse considering FI is a full time baseball coach/instructor, such a know it all!!  We actually have a flag pole outside and have each of our teams on there depending on the season.  We switch them every week depending on the rankings lol.  I would say just embrace it, don't make any bets, and make a pact to be nice to each other.

I'm a Red Sox fan and MH is a Yankees fan. Yeah.

But we both cheer for the Giants and the Devils.

Well, I'm replying late since we were actually at the game - he was in pinstripes and I was in my red Phillies gear!  DH is a HUGE sports fan and people ask me all the time how I put up with it.

With baseball it's not so bad since we respect and like each other's teams, and since they are in different leagues they aren't big rivals; the WS last year with them playing each other was most likely a once in a lifetime thing.  The Yankees are my second favorite team; DH has season tickets.

The big problem in my househould is that I'm a big Eagles fan (as is my entire family) and he is a HUGE Cowboys fan. He has to put up with a lot of crap from my family about it.  When I first told my sister about him she said "but how would you raise the children" (and we're the same religion). When the teams play each other I make him watch the game outside of the house, and we just don't talk about it afterwards whatever the outcome.

For our future kids they will most likely be primarily Yankees fans baseball wise since we do live here, but no reason they can't root for the Phils too.  As far as football, I can see my family pushing the Eagles on them, but wouldn't be surprised if they end up Giants fans.

...I'm not going to lie. I refused to date anyone who rooted for Dallas, on principal. I have friendships with people who root for them, as well as Atlanta fans... but, well, we don't get along during the season.

I may be very good at holding a grudge... <_< />_> Ahem.

With FI, it's mostly a lot of smoke and very little fire. I just have so thoroughly enjoyed our limited success in the past few baseball seasons that I am having trouble coping with the return to losing!

We have this problem, but just with football. I'm a huge Giants fan, and he's a Cowboys fan. We just rip on each other during the game and then let it go afterwards. Its just a game he always says (but secretly I think my team is better lol)
