need help with nuts

hehe, now get your mind out of the gutter!!

ok, the board is slow today, so I figured I would just throw this out there and see if i can get some advise.  While looking at various "candy buffet" I got to thinking, FI and I are not big sweet eaters... so why bother with candy?

so instead I want to have a "we're nuts for each other" buffet.  Same concept, but just different kinds of nuts instead of candy.  Some sweet, some salty, some both

A few that I thought of so far:
- candid pecan
- smoked almonds
- chocolate covered peanuts

but now I'm stuck... any other nut ideas.  What else would be good?  Anybody got a suggestion on where I can start to find bulk nuts at an affordable cost?  Heck, is this even a good idea?

Cute idea! There used to be a store called The Peanut Roaster in Brier Creek. Not sure if they are still there but, they have lots of different kinds of nuts in different flavors. Good Luck!

Beka, I thought about not everybody liking nuts, but i guess you could say that for just about anything.  Thats why I was also thinking about having some "sweet" nuts.  I'm also a little worried about allergies.  But I think our wedding will be small enough that I might not have to worry about it.  I would really hate to have to put a warning notice on our invites!

oh, love the almond joy idea!  yum.

Hmm. . . that would be tricky. I'm not familiar with nut allergies so this could be a VERY stupid question . .but if someone's allergic, could they just NOT go touch them? or is it actually being in the room with them that'll set off a reaction?

I still really like the idea as we arent huge candy people either (Rasinets are my gimme's)  and DH loves peanuts. . (I couldn't say nut. . that would just be wrong)

    haha... too funny!!

I don't know much about nut allergy either... I just know most places and people freak out over it.  I would assume if you are allergic, just don't touch the nuts!

I think some people can be so allergic that eating food that has been made around peanuts can set them off.  But those people are probably used to the fact that they have to be careful, and unless they called you up and asked if all your food was going to be peanut-safe or made in a kitchen without any peanuts, they would be prepared to not eat anyway!

I think the idea is cute, but beware of allergies, they are usally the sever ones that make the person stop breathing....

Great idea! I love nuts (hehehe) -- but seriously.  I love honey roasted peanuts (can be purchased in a big container at Super Walmart), chocolate covered peanuts, and another idea is my favorite candy - Ferrero Rocher (little chocolate truffles with a hazelnut inside and chopped hazelnuts covering the outside). You could also do mini Mr. Goodbars - YUM!  If you could find someone to volunteer to bake them (or you could buy them), you could do brownies or chocolate chip cookies with nuts.

Peanut Roaster is a great place, but it's a bit pricey.  They used to have one in Cary near Cardinal Gibbons High School.

I know PPs have mentioned this, but beware of allergies. My little sister can not even be in the same room as nuts. Something about the way the oils get in the air, and she breathes it in... idk all the facts, but I would just be careful. Otherwise, very cute idea!

Yeah, I would definitely ask around to see if anyone you're inviting has a serious nut allergy.  I used to babysit a kid that if he was in the same room as a package of nuts he'd go into anaphylactic shock D:

I think its a wonderful idea!!  You could also do yogurt covered pretzels...or chex mix.  Things that go with nuts.  Like a midnight snack.

Thanks ladies for all the wonder ideas.  I will be careful, but I think my wedding is going to be small enough to not worry to much (100 or less), so what I might do is just make a note of the "nut" buffet on our wedding web-site.  I am not worried about my friends and family, because none of them have allergies (actually we are all big nut lovers), my only concern would be any unknown guest my friends may bring.

But dang it, now I want hazelnut truffles and a brownie with nuts!!
