Registry question

Would you consider it rude to put a digital camera on a wedding registry? I don't have one - FI does but he leaves it at home, whereas I like to leave camera in my purse, so sometimes when we go out and want to photograph something we're out of luck because he never brings it unless we're on vacation. There's a nice Canon camera on the Macy's website for $140, so it's not even like it's super-expensive. I just don't want anyone to think it's rude. Thoughts?

i don't think it'd be rude, it's not even expensive or anything.  as a guest i'd likely spend more buying you a blender.  however, and this isn't a rule, it's just some made up thing in my gut i guess, a camera kinda falls into that 'christmas/brithday list' catagory and i feel doesn't really have a place on a wedding registry...

Will Macys let you register for it? When we were in the store in NYC they only said the scanner would work on specific floors. And online I feel like once you log in you don't have access to the full website like clothing, shoes, etc to add to your registry. I could be wrong though.

I don't think it's rude.  People put clocks which are "electronics".

You're right, Seabass, I don't even think I can add it to my registry. Oh well, moot point :P Serves me right for not checking before I ask! Maybe I'll keep it in mind if we get gift cards or something.

Not rude at all, go for it.  Someone may get it for you for a shower for your honeymoon.Seabass - the store in the city is horrible with the scanners, I had to get a new one 3 times.  It's more so that than what you can actually register for.

you can add it to an amazon registry! we eventually converted our bloomies registry to amazon and so many people loved it since it's free shipping over $25.i dont think its rude, but i wouldn't buy it for you :) lol

Are you logged into your registry or just looking at the Web site? Because unless they changed things, I don't think you'll be able to register for it. There's a bunch of stuff you can't register for online. (Which I guess is a comment on whether it's appropriate?) But a Macy's employee told me a salesperson can manually add it.

Are you logged into your registry or just looking at the Web site?I saw it on the website, then logged onto my registry and saw that I couldn't add it. Oh well. For $140, I can just save a little extra money and buy it for myself.

don't think it is rude...but don't be disappointed if you don't get it.I have a couple of things on my registry that I *want* but don't think I will get...but I threw on there just in case and...at most places, you receive a discount on anything not purchased from your registry after the wedding...so you can buy it yourself...that's my plan

I don't think there's anything rude about it at all, but... I would maybe get it for you as a shower gift, but not as a wedding gift.  It seems too fleeting and unspecial for a wedding gift (I always like to give a gift, but prefer things like china or silver that will be used for years).  Also, Macy's is not known for having the best priced or newest electronics, and you aren't getting married for a while.  By the time the wedding rolls around, it is completely possible (probable?) that there will be a better, newer model at a similar price point, and that this model will have come down in price (but maybe not at Macy's-- might just be out of stock there).  That's a problem with having any of those sorts of electronics on a registry-- by the time you get it you may not want it, and the 10% completion discount may not be worth it anyway if it is much cheaper elsewhere/obsolete.

Not rude at all.  I second the amazon idea.  I would get something like this!  I actually prefer to buy things that are not kitchen or bath related and are going to be used.  I recently got a friend the FLIp for her honeymoon and an underwater camera for another
