Aisle Runner Questions

1. Did you or are you using an aisle runner? 2. If so, are you having it set in place before the ceremony or is it going to be pulled down before you walk down?  I'm trying to determine the logistics of the aisle runner. I don't want guests walking on it before we come down the aisle but it looks so much nicer already put in place than having someone roll it down. I'm afraid its going to look messy if its not secured into place before hand. Any other suggestions? TIA

We're having one, painted with our monogram on it, and it'll be set in place. Yes I understand the guests might walk on it, but it's so pretty and I want everyone to see it. :)

Thanks Jaime.Should I rope off the center aisle and let guests come in from the outside of the pews so as to deter guests from walking on it or is that wierd?

Not sure. At a wedding I was just at, she had the middle roped off but just a plain pink runner. But I honestly don't mind people walking on it so that's not something I'm going to do. But her church was more intimate than mine so the guests didn't have to walk very far around.

Yes we'll have an aisle runner. It will be rolled down right before the girls start walking down. The runner will be secured at the front and who ever unrolls it just has to walk straight back and it should be fine. I would think it would look messier after everyone has walked all over it rather than it being freshly rolled out.

my sister's had hers monogramed (by moi).. lol and it looked awesome to have it set up so that everyone can see it. i think for the most part, people respected the aisle runner and didn't dig their feet all up on it. it looked great before and after the ceremony so i can only assume that ppl tried to not walk on the center of it.. i like it already set up! gets people just as excited as you are before the ceremony!

I'm not having one. I guess I don't see the point...or I just don't know what the point of it is. Is it just to make the aisle look nicer?

I don't think there's a point per se, but I think the idea originated before there were paved streets so people were constantly walking through dirt & crap and would track it all over the floor. I think the aisle runner came into play so the bride would have a clean surface to walk on and not track dirt from people's shoes all over her dress. Plus the whole purity thing that goes with being a bride.

Does anyone think its rude or wierd to rope off the center aisle? The church only has about 14 rows so its not a big deal for them to walk around IMO. Just curious what you think.

cvl- I don't think they're is a "point" to it but I think it adds a personal touch and extra detail to the ceremony. It's merely a personal preference.

ok, thanks, I was just curious. I don't feel like making one...or paying for one at this point. lol. Plus I'm afraid I'll trip.  The aisle at my church is beautiful too, so I guess I'll just stick with that. I'm not very pure anyways. lolololol

I went to a wedding where they roped off the middle.  Most people didn't realize they were roped off until they already walked on the runner.  I don't think it was weird that it was roped off though.

We had planned to rope off the center aisle when our ceremony was going to be outside.  The florist was going to put petals down along the sides of the runner.Since it rained we had to move inside so we couldn't rope off the aisle since there was no room.  If you aren't having petals down along the side, I wouldn't see a problem with people walking on it or having it pulled down just before you walk down.
