vent: FI seems to think...

It's okay not to have a limo/bus/rented transportation for the day of the wedding. In his eyes, we're all going to the Graycliff, getting dressed in our own rooms (apparently he doesn't know about the hours it takes for 6 girls to get hair and make-up done), coming downstairs doing our 20 minute ceremony, taking a few pics by the gazebo outside (just fi and me would even fit there), and coming back in to party.Meanwhile, I'm kind of hoping to get ready at my mom's house, take the limo somewhere to do our first glace, take pictures with all of our bridal party someplace other than the graycliff, rain or shine, and then head off to the graycliff for the ceremony and reception. It's funny that we just realized our difference in opinions on this. We're seriously fighting about this. lol. What's the point of having a photographer? Might as well cancel that expense too huh? I'm sure someone can snap the few pictures we need on the gazebo. Oh, and if it rains, he thinks the upstairs room will be perfect for all of the photos.

i didn't have any formal transportation and my wedding party all arrived safe and sound  ;P  pictures were all taken on the grounds.  you don't want to go too many places for pictures, it's not worth the effort/time.

Where did you get dressed? I could live without the limo/bus/whatever. But definitely need more pictures than the gazebo at the Graycliff. Don't get me wrong, but the outside grounds there aren't fabulous. I mean it's basically a road on either side.

I'm also having my reception at the Graycliff!! ewwwwwww I hate the photo room upstairs....it reminds me of what they made you stand in front of for prom pics! My fiance and I are trying to figure out what we want to do with limo and transportation right now too....stressful!

I'm with your FI on this one. If your ceremony is on site, save the money. Our ceremony was on site. Hair and makeup were done at the house, the finishing touches (dress etc) were done on site. Drove a regular car there. I don't regret not spending that money. I'm happy to have saved the thousands of dollars on transportation that we didn't need.

Seeeeeee that's what I'm saying! FI thinks this was a great perk for choosing the venue and the photos are going to "the same" as if they were outside. Kelly are you getting married there too?

calypso, did you stop elsewhere to take photos? really, it's not the transportation thing that gets me upset. It's more the picture aspect.

No were not getting married at The Graycliff. We are using Finace's church in Hackettstown....like 45-50 minutes away!

No... I didn't realize that was an issue with Graycliff (never been there). I had no issues taking pictures at our venue b/c it was amazing (inside too), but I can understand not wanting to get stuck if your venue is not... I don't know that's a tough one.

Ugh, I'm also having transportation woes. I just can't make the logistics work without us literaly renting 4 vehicles. And, like yours, my FI thinks that's crazy. ANd to be honest, I also think it's kinda crazy, but I just can't seem to solve the puzzle any other way, besides "you're all on your own."

I think we've come to a temporary compromise to ditch the formal transportation rental, but make some kind of stop before we make our eventual arrival at the reception.oh god, and I'm not bashing my venue - so I hope they don't read this and think that. :)

we all got dressed at the chateau.  we had whole place and used it for getting ready, and before-ceremony pictures.  i just had a car for me & dad to the church, everyone else drove.

I am using a limo because the hotel we are staying and getting ready at is 20 minutes away from our venue.

We did not have any rented transportation.  The guys got dressed at the hotel and took the hotel shuttle to the Tides.  I got my hair and make-up done at a salon and then we drove ourselves to the Tides where I just had to put on my dress.  We just felt like it was an easy place to save some money.

I would def get transportation if we had to take pics elsewhere. honestly that is the ONLY reason why we got a party bus. We ended up indeed wasting our money bc we didn't have time to go to a park and it had been raining the whole week of the wedding and the grounds would have been too muddy for first glance pics, but luckily the valley had enough space for pics.If you def know you will be going to do the pics elsewhere ithink it makes sense to have everyone together.  I didnt want to rely on 20 people getting there on their own on time

My daughter is getting married at the Graycliff next year. Although the outside would be okay for some pictures, and the photographer has assured us that he can block out the street and cars. We wont be taking all pictures there we are taking some at the house and some at our local park. I was worried if there is rain what will happen. Tony the owner told us we could take pictures in the room before ceremony and upstairs. I told Tony the room upstairs needs to be updated and he told me that is in the works and will be done before the wedding.

Her wedding is July 16, 2010. Ask the Graycliff when they plan on redoing the upstairs .
