When is the best time to solder your Engagement Ring to your Wedding Ring? Should you solder them to

Just wondering what everyone's take is on this subject: When is the best time to solder your Engagement Ring to your Wedding Ring? Should you solder them together? Did you do it? My FI wants to do it before the wedding so when he puts the wedding band on they will be together already BUT I'd like to have be separate for a little bit and see how I like it. I think maybe sometimes I'll just want to wear the band without the big ring and this gives me that option BUT he says he custom made them to match and he wants them soldered. Thoughts....

I would never sodder (or is it solder like you said - I don't know) mine.  When I got pregnant, my e-ring didn't fit right, but my wedding band still fits.  Plus, my rings compliment each other but are so different that I wouldn't want them permanently together.

I've never even heard of this...

My MIL has it and most of their family does this. I would never. Sometimes I wear just my wedding band. My sister, while she was pregnant she could only wear her wedding band and even for a few weeks after the birth... I wouldn't do it.

LOL. I think it's solder but it could be sodder. Anyway...maybe it's a west coast thing as I am located in Orange County, CA and my FI is a CA native. I'm curious to see what the feedback is from others in NJ and I also posted this to the CA boards I'm on. :)

My friend did hers because they we custom made to fit around her ring.  She couldnt really wear them stand alone so she soldered them so they wouldnt spin seperatly and look messed up.  She did it after the wedding and during the ceremony her husband only put one of the two wedding bands on her finger.

I'm not a fan of keeping them together. My mom had issues where she couldn't wear her rings at all after pregnancy and had to have them both made a little biger (1/2 size). I like that I will be able to wear one without the other.

I havent heard of people doing this, my mom has a ring that both her rings kind of fit into to make them one ring, but to sodder - meaning melt them into each other sounds weird, solder, not sure what that word means

Yes Sodder-Solder means to meld them together. I googled it and it spells it Solder but pronounced sodder. Seems the consenus is to keep them separate so I will try to get him to let me keep 'em separate for now and see how I like it. Thanks all! :)

i didn't and won't be doing this for PP reasons:  i like having my options of not wearing the ering all the time.  if you do, no, you shouldn't before the wedding or else you can't wear your ering in getting ready shots.

Melissa...lol. I will. JK. He's fine with whatever I want but he just suggested it since he had them custom made to go together so he wants it to look perfect. Funny how he cares about that but hasn't had any input yet in any of the other decisions. Fine by me. :)

=pLuckily mine hasn't gotten any ideas into his head that don't come out easily with a little gentle shaking.

My grandmother did that to hers because the two rings rubbed against each other and it wore away the metal to a thin band. Thats when she made the decision to have to soldered together. My Mother would have done the same thing if she had gotten an engagement ring (she didnt want one at the time)Not sure what i will do with mine yet.

I'm surprised he even cares! I honestly wouldn't want them soldered before the wedding, because you're going to want pictures with just your bands etc.Why not wear them separate a few weeks and then decide? I don't understan the rush.
