Envy poll

Which of the following things would you be most envious of, if someone you knew suddenly had it? (Not envious in a mean-spirited way, just an "OMG, I really wish that was me" way.)* a brand new car* a house* some kind of electronic gadget (a really souped-up computer, a fancy camera, the latest phone or MP3 player, a gigantic TV, etc.)* a baby* a really good piece of jewelry* a luxurious vacation* an awesome job* tickets to a sports game or a concert that are normally impossible to get

Hmmm...if I had to choose out of those I guess a luxurious vacation. Like if it was something really crazy that they won or something.

vacation, only because that is something i have not really had in a long time.  sure, i've been here and there but always "because" of something: wedding, work, group outing.  DH & i still never had an official HM.  there is just so little time with our schedules, and getting someone to watch the dog now... it's not even a money issue.  so yes, i get most envious when i hear about vacations.the others things i am honestly very happy with and are perfect for "us" right now (ie. no babies, work cars even if not the most luxury, love our house even if not that new or huge or in allendale or some ritzy town, gagets i have aplenty, jewlery collection is fine by me, both happy with jobs even if we have dream jobs down the road, and tickets/concerts kinda fall into the 'wish i had time' like vacation, but we go enough to make me fulfilled)...

an awesome job, or one I just really liked.  It's where I spend 42 1/2 hours a week and it's not fun being unhappy that many hours.

A house, hands-down. I'm always thrilled for my friends when they announce that they've bought a house, but part of me gets really sad inside that we won't be able to do this ourselves for a while. I hate our neighborhood and our living situation and I'm so ready to leave it all behind.

house and then baby since they are kinda tied together for us.  we are currently in a one bedroom so no room for a baby there and we can't buy a house until dh is more settled financially.

I don't have a use for a car. Houses scare me-- so much maintenance and so much furniture to buy! If I want electronics, I buy them. Babies scare me more than houses. I'm not into jewelry. I don't like sports or concerts that much.So I guess that leaves awesome job or luxurious vacation.  An awesome apartment (in a building that has good maintenance so I don't have to do much myself) would make me jealous.  An interior designer and really nice furniture would make me jealous (I'm a cheapskate when it comes to furniture). The weird thing is, most of my friends are in my profession, and in my profession, if you've been doing it for x years, you make y dollars a year.  So most of my friends make pretty much exactly what I am, which keeps jealousy at bay (okay, they have a nice apartment?  So could I if I was willing to pay that percentage of my salary on rent).I will say that I am very jealous of my best friend's set-up-- her husband is a very successful banker (even in this economy), she hasn't worked in four years, constantly goes on ridiculous vacations, and has very nice clothes and shoes.  I justify my awful job by buying myself nice things, but I'd much prefer if my nice shoes were paid for by someone else's hard work rather than my own:)  But then, I don't think I'd be entirely comfortable with that arrangement (particularly because in her case it started like 1 year after they started dating, but they didn't get married until recently).

House...then baby....then car although I think in reality I would want a new car before a baby because Im not sure I would put a baby in my car and FI drives a little sports car. Pretty happy with the rest of the stuff, love my job, and get to go away once a year to a Cabo, but I would never turn down a good piece of jewelry.

awesome job, then baby, then vacation, then jewelry. i'm about to close on a house, so I've got that covered.  My job sucks right now.. possibly getting laid off.  All my friends are starting to have babies, so it's making me want one now (well, not now, after the wedding lol).  and vacations and jewelry are always welcome!

A house. Due to FI being in the academy then a military depoyment, we're not going to start looking until next summer. But I would like one now. So I'd be most envious of that.

I am going to put an answer that isnt an option... NO STUDENT LOANS!  I am constantly jealous of my friends.  I paid for college in all loans... today I checked my balance I own $30K in JUST INTEREST!  I nearly died.  I would love to actually be able to buy a house, a car, jewelry, go on a lux vacation, and there is a possibility if I didnt have loans that I would actually be able to live like a normal 26 year old and buy STUFF!
  • edited December 2011
AMEN TO THE STUDENT LOANS!!!!! taking out loans for college has to be one of the dumbest things i have done. I so wish I had a clue back then!
