Venetian Ladies Re:cake

I know a cake is included in the package and I have heard some of you ladies talking about tastings and choosing fillings/designs, etc.  When I went to the Venetian to make an additional payment I asked about it and the way it was phrased to me was I could contact the bakery for a tasting or to choose a cake "if I wanted something other than what is included." Do we NOT have a choice in fillings or design/color if we are staying with a "Level A" (I think that's what they called it) cake?    TIA

That was me that was talking about that---what is included is the basic (what they call 'level A' cake).  I don't think it affects the fillings or anything.  They have a booklet they show you with I think maybe like...10 A Cake...10 B Cakes...and 10C Cakes. The level A cakes have buttercream frosting/flowers/etc.The Level B cakes have fondant instead of frosting. The Level C cakes are the super fancy kinds with like sugar flowers, etc.I *think* if you want a buttercream cake...but with a different design, then you don't have to pay more, but I am not certain on that.If you want to move to a level B cake as I wanted because I had a specific cake in mind (however, the cost was so insane that I am currently trying to decide on a level A cake)---I think you pay $3.25 extra.  For me, we are having anywhere from 265 (which is our min) to 300 guests.  For a cake that will serve 300 that is covered in fondant (but with a very simple design) I would have had to pay $975 extra.Hope that helps.  Also, I don't know if they told you or not--but I don't think The Venetian using Palermos anymore, ONLY Le Petit Gateau.  If you go on their website you can see examples of the different levels of cakes.Needless to say, when i found this out, I was annoyed...I knew it might cost more for a fancier cake...but not THAT much more.

OK Thank you! I guess I misunderstood because I was almost of the impression that if I went with the A cake that there was no need to go to the bakery because I would get some generic sort of cake. I have no desire to spend anything extra on cake, especially since we are having the Viennese. I think I've given everyone enough $$$ thank you very much! ANd yes $975 for frikin cake on top of whatever the Venetian's putting toward it is INSANE!

i think TECHNICALLY if you didn't WANT to go to the bakery, you don't have to and you can pick through a book with someone at the venetian...but you might as well go...taste what they have, see their cakes and maybe if there is something on the basic cake you want to change up a bit, you can talk to them about it.But make sure you make an appointment if you go--they are tiny inside, so not a lot of room

I thought the selections were pretty decent. The only thing that costs more was fondant, and that wasn't something we wanted. We got a beautiful 5 tier cake, favors and fillings of our choice and didn't have to pay extra.

Agreed - level A cakes were decent...you can change colors, fillings and it wouldn't cost anything in addition for the most part.  But if you move to fondant, then yes, more $.  We went for a tasting to see what combo's went well together....it was fun.
