NWR: Best Pumpkin Picking Location?

We usually hit up a pumpkin stand in Lincoln Park every year but I thought this year it would be nice to actually go to a u-pick farm where we can scavenge for our pumpkins! Where do you all think is the best place to go? I'm looking for places around the area of Morristown or Wayne... any suggestions? Thanks!

I don't know any places around where you ask. I do know that most pumpkin "picking" is not really picking anymore. Unless this is just by me. Most of the time the farms pick the and then just arange them in a bare patch nearby. I don't know if the would bother you.

Yeah.. I was gonna say that- by "Picking" they mean they take you to a field where they through all the pumpkins and you pick one from the pile. I go apple picking at Demarest Farms (not really in the wayne area, but not far from it.... they have pumpkins too but the apples you really get to pick.

There are a lot of good pumpkin farms along RT 34....around the Holmdel, Colts Neck area....Then stopping at Delicious Orchards is the best part (they have the best pies and cider donuts) :)

We go to Donaldson Farm in Hacketstown every year. They have a field to pick your own pumkns, but I actually think they just place a lot of pumpkins in a huge field since none are actually attached to vines. They also have other fresh vegatables and fruits to buy in the store. Also fresh baked pies and cakes and breads.

There is one in Montville... Right of Rt 287. Same deal thou... they have the pumpkins in the field, but I think they're placed that way. So you "pick" your own.

Check out Alstead Farms (not sure if it is 2 "l's" or one).  They had a really cool corn maze too =)

There are a few in the Chester Area, including Alsteds. There are a couple others on 206.

I was also going to say Donaldson's in Hackettstown -  they do offer the actual picking option...its not that far from Wayne...maybe 30 minutes or so - In case you need directions...Take 80W to the Budd Lake exit which is Route 46 follow that all the way to Mountain Avenue/Main Street (its probably like 10 miles or so and you'll know you are there because it is a T in the road and you can't go straight any further)...make a left on Mountain Avenue...Right on Route 57 and when you get to the light where the Weis market is make a right there (movie theatre too) Donaldson's is less than mile up the hill on the left

I have hometown bias-- Alstede's in Chester, or Ort's in Long Valley.  And stop by the Hacklebarney Cider Mill too!

oh, and I'm a pumpkin snob (grew up across the street from a pumpkin patch and take pumpkin picking very seriously)-- I *have* to break mine off a vine.  That usually isn't a problem at the places I mentioned, although there are more pre-picked pumpkins sitting in the fields than in past years.  Boo.This is supposed to be a bad pumpkin year though.  I don't even know if we're going to go out.I miss the country in the fall :(

Wonderful!! Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm going to have to run them all past the hubby and see which one we want to drive out to. I <3 the fall... my favorite time of year :)
