oh and I am not sure it this is possible, but I prefer to work with the DJ, not with some company that has multiple DJ's and you dont know which one you are going to get, but I dont know if any exist.

Certain companies allow for you to request a particular DJ. I know that Elite does that. They also have showcases that you can attend so that you can see the different DJs and their style, which allows you to choose which one you want.

I am using Jerry from Latinbrothers.com.  I think they are pretty small.  They did a friends wedding and he was fabulous.  And he was affordable.  He is doing english only for my wedding and will only be playing spanish songs that you would hear on Z100 if he plays any spanish songs.

magic moment is too far away, we are very busy this semester and can only see a DJ either late at night, or on weekends.

We used LJ DJ's and they were AWESOME! I'm with you on the owner thing - Jack who is one of the owner's was our DJ - we only spoke with him, dealt with him and used him the day of, he was a pleasure to work with.

I booked Touch of Class out of Kearny. Mario is the owner and the one who will be doing my wedding. There is only 1 other guy he works with, kind of as a back up. Mario said he always books himself first. Price is within your budget too!

Wayde from your wedding entertainment- sounds like he has what you want. Hes in your price range, he offers uplighting for a good price and when you book him, you get HIM. He doesn't employ a lost of other DJ's to do his job. I liked him because hes veryorganized and has a sincere personality.

we used stolen moments entertainment from dobbs ferry and they were magnificant.  not sure how far in NJ they'd travel.  they have everything from normal DJ to complete band.  we had 1 keys player/DJ and a soloist, mirella, who was lovely.

We're using Chuck Russo.  We were looking for someone to play music and do the minimum.  He's in your range but he doesn't do uplighting.

I'm late to this post, but I would highly recommend Electrifying Productions. www.electrifyingprods.com The owner and DJ, Brian, it fantastic, very laid back, and negotiable with price. We're getting the reception, cocktail hour, ceremony, and uplighting for $1700.
