Favor idea

this is our item for most time spent on a detail that no one cares about. And you know my lack of fondness for most wedding favors especially donations.  I also dont like little crap that no one will use like a wine corker or mini picture frame.  FI doesnt like candy buffet. So our idea is that we make a little bag or box and put fall themed items in it, so far we have come up with a packet of hot chocolate, a packet of cider mix, a cinnamin stick, candy corn, and maybe dried fruit, but not sure about that.  Any thoughts?  Good idea, terrible idea, suggestions?

awful idea. i would use a wine stopped a hell of a lot more than hot chocolate and cider. maybe that is just the wino in me speaking, but that bag would go right in the hotel garbage. and just becuase you fi doesn't like candy doesn't mean others don't.

I think they are good ideas. My wedding was in the winter and I was going to do hot chocolate and a mug. So I like the idea of cider. But maybe dont do all of it...seems like to much I think.

Sounds more like an OOT bag.

I personally wouldn't want one packet of drink mix. I also don't care for candy corn or dried fruit or cinnamon sticks, sorry. I would personally do chocolates. I think that's pretty much a universal crowd-pleaser. Either get chocolates that are wrapped in fall-themed wrappings (like those Halloweeen Lindt truffles, Gharadelli squares in fall colored wrappers, fall-colored M&Ms, etc.), or do molded chocolates, either DIY or purchased from somewhere (in the shape of leaves, pumpkins, acorns, etc.).

I disagree with Erika.  I think it is a nice idea.  I too love wine, but as a result I have received like 900 wine stoppers as gifts in the past.  I don't need any more.  I would maybe drink the hot chocolate etc. and if I didn't because I forgot about it, I wouldn't feel bad throwing it out after a reasonable time.

I like the idea of hot chocolate or cider mix, but I think the candy corn and dried fruit are a little weird.  I have seen personalized packets of hot chocolate mix on the knot I think.

I like the idea of a fall themed favor--but the "packets" of apple cider are gross IMO...I have no use for a cinnamin stick and unless you are having your wedding on halloween weekend, I don't see why you would give out candy corn. Sticking with the fall theme...maybe talk to local bakery about getting mini apple or pumpkin pies? I don't know if this would fall under your 'useless' category..but maybe fall scented candles?  Or stick with the fall themed baggie but put something a little better in there (IMO hot chocolate is wintery)--maple candies? I don't know...

I think it's too much in one idea. I like something like this:

That is an oot bag, not a favor.  And really dried fruit?
  • edited December 2011
Maybe instead of hot chocolate or cider mix you could do a packet of mulled spices that you could use to make spiced wine or spiced cider.  That would please the winos and the non alcoholics.  And I would skip all the rest of the crap.  Personally though I would do chocolates.

What about choc covered apples or candy apples?  I am having a May wedding and want to do those.
  • edited December 2011
FI doesnt like candy apples, she is concerned that we have a lot of older relatives, who wont be able to eat it.  Our other idea was what looks like a candy apple, but is actually a brownie.  Or are we just making this too hard and should we just do the simple bar of chocolate with our name and date on it?

Maybe you are making it too hard on yourselves?  Maybe use the chocolate bar (which almost everyone will like) as your back-up plan, and then wait to see if you see something that you like more before the wedding.  You have plenty of time to be inspired.  If you don't come up with anything better, chocolate bar wins.

The only thing I like from your packet of things is hot chocolate.  Aside from being too much, it can get costly. I would stick with chocolate; whether candy bar, hot chocolate mix or the brownie thing you mentioned....

got large black and white cookies for 89cents/per from stop and shop.  they come individually wrapped in clear cellophane which can be tied with ribbon...cheap and good!  people at the shower loved 'em!

I really like Einat's idea....or even chocolate chip cookie mix jar. I've seen this, not as a wedding favor though, and it was really cute.  You could even make these yourself for cost effectiveness.

What about mini jars of apple butter?  Or bottles of apple cider. These sell for $2.50 each:

I like Einat's idea. I think hot chocolate is more universally liked than cider too.

Or maybe a Mini pumpkin pie? I don't know if they make these.  In mini boxes with a cute ribbon.  (or apple pie if you don't like the pumpkin idea)

I love cider, but I don't know that I'd really enjoy the cider that simplycee posted -- it doesn't look like the good stuff.  Is there a farm near the venue where you could get fresh cider?  I know Melick's has individual-sized bottles.  That and a cider doughnut would be a great favor for me :)  (We actually looked into getting cider doughnuts as a parting snack for our wedding, but Sept. 1 was kind of too early for that). Not everyone likes cider, and not everyone likes hot chocolate or candy apples or chocolate bars or wine stoppers or candy buffets or donations.  It is really nice of you guys to be trying to accomodate everyone, but keep in mind that that's going to be impossible to do and it will be very easy to drive yourselves crazy trying.

This has nothing to do with fall...but the original favor we were going to do was chocolate covered expresso beans in either an expresso cup (you can get them wholesale in a few places online) or in a paper coffee 'to go" cup.I am only throwing it out there because I really liked that idea and a little sad we went in another direction!
  • edited December 2011
and yes, I know it is espresso and not expresso.

I like the idea of hot chocolate in a mug like one of the girls had said.  Also the cider bottle  and Einat's suggestion are cute too.  Edible favors are good and cost effective.

I think you are on the right track :) Very creative and thoughtful.  How many "One picture frame", Candle, Chocolates, Wine stoppers can someone have!I personally end up throwing extras out!. Candles with different colored ribbons, picture frame that doesn't match with any other decor around your house, or chocolate, after having a nice meal, dessert at your event, who would come home and enjoy the chocolate again, least a day or two later- may be!So what you got in the basket right now is creative and usefull.I am having custom made Wind-chimes since i can get custom beads to match my event colors..

ranit, I can't help but be a little snarky here (please forgive) and maybe my perspective is different as someone who has lived in city apartments for 8 years -- but how are custom-made wind chimes in the colors of your wedding more practical than wine stoppers or picture frames?
