I got mine from Park Avenue Bridals in Verona and was really pleased with the experience. I also went to Bridals by Roma in Clifton and they were O.K. I also went to Group USA in Jersey Gardens Mall (Elizabeth) and they had some decent stuff to choose from. This works best if you're O.K. with looking at stuff on your own and not really having a saleswoman help you. La Belle Boutique in Jersey City is supposed to be pretty good, but I didn't go there.

I just bought my dress at Park Avenue Bridal in Verona yesterday. It was a great experience and my consultant Joan was so sweet. I had already tried on THE dress when visiting my BM in Denver, but they didn't have that particular style in the shop. I tried on a few more at the shop and they gladly ordered the gown that I came in originally wanting and the owner beat the price I was quoted at two other dress shops. I would highly recommend them.

I went to Kleinfeld. I would highly recommend it. Also, mcd - I think La Belle may be bm dresses only but that would've been the perfect location for OP..

mbc - I remember when I was dress shopping for myself I heard that Park Ave and Roma's rip the tags out of their dresses. Is this still true? I've heard good things about Park Ave recently so I'm thinking of taking my sister there this weekend and we plan on checking out RK bridal too.

I don't know about Roma's, because I only tried on about 5 dresses there. I got frustrated because they really didn't have any samples that fit me. I didn't specifically look for the tags in the Park Avenue dresses, but I think I remember seeing a few. And the Maggie Sottero dresses had the MS label on the straps that hold it on the clothes hanger. I went there twice and had two different saleswomen, and they both had no problem telling me the designer of the dresses when I asked. I tried on a Mary's, a Da Vinci and a few Maggie Sotteros (possibly other designers, but nothing I liked enough to want to know what it was) and wound up buying a Maggie.

uppereast - I'm asking for my sister and she doesn't have a budget in mind. We just want to check out some places this weekend and try on a bunch of dresses to get some ideas on style and price so that when my mom comes into town in a few weeks we've narrowed the choices down a bit.

Roma's does not rip the tags out of the dresses.  I saw mine clear as day and then when I went to try on the first time they showed it all to me to make sure it was right.  They do have a system to keep track of them as do many other places.I had a wonderful experience there, as did many other knotties.

I had a great experience at Lingerie & Bridal By Lisa on Rte 46 West in Parsippany. Lisa had a beautiful selection of dresses that aren't overpriced. She's also a certified fitter so your dress will feel great when you wear it. Lisa is also a very nice person who only wants the best for her brides.

In that case, I would recommend Mark Ingram.  I got my dress at Vera Wang and had a great experience (but they only sell Vera Wang dresses).  I have been to Kleinfeld's twice and hated it, but if you can ignore the pushy, pushy salespeople, it has a huge selection of dresses.

caketime - Thanks for the info about Roma's. I had a feeling my info might be outdated.
