Paintings?

Amerz totally reminded me with her post- when is was cleaning out my grandma's house last weekend, I found a bunch of REALLY old paintings in her attic. Besides an antique dealer, can anyone suggest a good place to go to find out if these are worth anything?

If there's an artist's name, maybe you can try to search that to get a general idea

There is a name, but it's so scribbly (is that even a word?) that I can't read it... Maybe I could bring it to a museum?

Hahaha, that's funny- I didn't even think about that! But I'd be the idiot with stuff that's worth 25 cents...

I dont have any names but there are companies that come to your home and look at your stuff if you are interested in selling/auctioning. My parents used Christies when we had some paintings to sell. We sent them pictures of the items, they gave us initial estimates and then sent someone who looked at everything. Christies and sothebys have fees for this (i think) but I know there are freelance people with similar credentials that do not charge.

Well if I can send them pictures first, then that would definitely be the way to go.  I don't want to drag someone over there to find out they were not even something worth looking at.  Thank you for the suggestion -- I'll be looking into it! :0)
