I usually always answer the phone at work...well because I'm at work. But on my cell phone I was a big time screener. If I didn't know the number I didn't answer. But now with all the wedding planning and vendors calling me, I find myself picking up the phone just incase its' a vendor I actually need to talk to.

While I'm at my desk at work I keep google open and quickly type in the numbers to see who is calling if I don't know the number. Most of the time its someone trying to sell something so I can just go and delete the voicemail later.

I always get people at work calling to try to get us to use their payroll company, or 401K, banking services, etc etc etc....so it's just easy not to answer and have to talk to them!  They even get sneaky sometimes and tell the receptionist that they know me personally!!!  Then I get pissed!

All the time!  Even at work I do I look at the caller ID and answer it based on if I really want to talk to that person.

Guilty.  Ann I do the same thing, ever since we got engaged and I signed up for a few wedding related things I get calls from so many vendors so I do a quick search.

I would say that I answer 10% of the calls I receive.  I HATE talking on the phone. My biggest pet peeve is when my mom calls, I screen it (usually just if it is an annoying time to talk -- sorry mom!) and then she leaves me a long voicemail, and THEN sends me an email that says the exact same thing.  So I don't even listen to her voicemails anymore.

... and at work I get a ton of cold calls from recruiters or financial advisors, so unless I recognize the phone number, I have my secretary screen the call.

That's weird, I don't get random calls like that at work. I would say 90% of my calls are from internal people so their name pops up or they're from outside clients, which is why I always answer the phone.

seabass - what do you do again? I can't remember.  I guess it's because I'm in charge of payroll, and changing 401k if we were to, and health insurance etc.  They call the receptionist and she just puts them through to my phone.  Usually she's good about screening them for me though, and I just tell her to put it to my voicemail

There are a lot of legal recruiters looking for business, and all of our information (name, picture, practice area, education, bar admissions, etc.) is readily available on the firm website -- that's why we get so many cold calls.  The worst are financial planners who will call and say "I'm meeting with some people at your firm on [date] and wanted to see if we can meet for a few minutes to talk about our services."  Even if I say I'm not interested, sometimes I get a call from our security desk anyway on the designated date saying that the planner is there for our meeting and looking to be let upstairs.  I guess they just call every whose name they know until someone is stupid enough to let them up?

I get alot of job recruiters too, trying to place people in jobs at our company.  I can't get mad, since I know people need jobs, but...we're not hiring anytime soon, and they just don't quite seem to understand that!

I am a screening whore, if there were a phone plan that you could get with 20 mins a month I would probably use 8 of those minutes.  My brother and I text all the time, but I think I have talked on the phone with him maybe 6 times my entire life ha ha.I hate talking on the phone both personally and at work, I try to influence all my vendors to contact me via email by not answering their calls, but answering their emails asap, it usually works!

I work for a CC company. We do have a general number for the whole company which goes directly to a switchboard so maybe calls like that come in there and the genreal operator just takes care of them?

I won't answer my cell phone if I don't know the number. If it's important, they'll leave a message

I don't have a job where I need to speak to outside clients, so unless it's an internal call I don't answer the phone. And the people in my office usually communicate via e-mail or Yahoo IM, so I've gotten maybe two legitimate phone calls within a year. We get a lot of telemarketers calling our company for some reason. I usually answer my cell phone no matter what.

I cannot stand to talk on the phone at all - I would rather e-mail, text, IM, BBM anythign but talk usually - but at work I have no choice, I HAVE to answer the phone so it sucks I do the same as Ally respond immediately to everyone every other way
