NWR: Post-wedding chop recommendations

So... I'm ready to chop off my two feet of hair that I've been growing for 2 years. I have a friend who goes to the Panico in Ridgewood, and I might go there but I kind of hated the Oradell Panico so I'm nervous. Any recommendations for GOOD creative salons who will actually do what someone asks and also do a professional job? I live in Northern Bergen county, so, Bergen county or somewhere nearby would be nice.

I don't have any recs since I live in monmouth county (would have one if you were down here lol), but are you planning on donating it?  Its a great thing to do if you can and it seems like 2 feet would be a great amount.

I donated mine to locks of love. and Lauren - I know you said you dont like panico in oradell - but the ridgewood one might be good. I used to go to the one in caldwell, and they were excellent. I'd give it a shot.

well, 2 feet is an exaggeration but I do probably have the 8 inches required to donate... I may donate it, the problem with donating is usually salons that donate are not the best salons ever, but I will certainly look into it.

There is this Asian guy my sister & friends go to in Rutherford, he's super talented and super cheap. His name is Gise, pronounced Geesay, the salon is Gise as well, it's a little rinky dink place. 201-933-9282. Park Avenue in Rutherford. I'm tempted to try him, being that my hairdresser for 10 plus years decided to come out of the closet, get married & move to the woods in Canada.

that is to say, 8 inches with plenty left to not be bald.

lauren - any place will do it. just tell them to take the first (major 8 inch or so) chop and hand it to you. bring a zip lock. Then you can go on the locks of love (or is it locks for love) website, and send it in.

ah. thanks for the info. good to know, I'll definitely think about it, I am a little afraid to go TOO short, so I have to see how much that is when the salon braids it for me.

hahahah I doubt you look like Andrea Yates.I was actually thinking that swoopy choppy side bang thing that is all the RAGE now. But I have no idea.
  • edited December 2011
I tried to do the full bang this year & I looked like the dutch boy paint guy. Side swept works for most people though. I have a big forehead & I like to have some hair around my face.

If Lyndhurst/Rutherford area isn't too far from you, there's a salon, HiLights, on Ridge Rd. not far from Rt. 3. All the stylists have years of experience (for being in their late 20's/early 30s) & it's a great, clean salon. I'd highly recommend the two who have done my hair the past 3+ years: Gina (owner) or Erika (former owner who is now there on Fridays & Saturdays). They know what they're doing! :)201-939-0322

If you do donate it give it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.  They absolutely give to cancer patients and they dont charge them for the wigs.  Locks for Love uses donated hair to make wigs and gives cancer patients a 'discount' on wigs or they sell your hair.  Kind of shady.
