Poll: How close are you with your siblings?

This was inspired  by looking at a pic of Lauren and Alliecarrie....I was just thinking how much they looked like they really enjoyed being around each other  and if they were really very close...To answer my own question I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers and we are all so close it is hard to be living in another state and I don't know what I would do without them

aw, nah, we hate each other. it's all for the camera.Just kidding. We didn't grow up all that close but we're much closer now, because we don't have to compete anymore, you know? We have different lives. I dig her. And her dog, which helps. =)

I'm the oldest of 5. I have 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. My sisters are twins. I'm Italian, familia is a big deal. My sisters & I look, and sound a lot alike, but they got the blue eyes. It's weird, because my husband didn't have any of this growing up. He was not use to huge dinners all the time, constantly being around people.

awww Mye I am sorry to hear that I hope things work out ok....It is hard especially with a big family too because there have been times when someone would be the black sheep and I always tried to see the brighter side and there would be arguements but what really solidfied it for me recently was that every single one of them came out here to my wedding and my 2 brothers walked me down the aisle..it was truly a moment I will treasure for the rest of my life...ok and now I am crying..great

I'm one of five and we range in age from 29-11 (two marriages).  The youngest two live in Florida.I think we have gone through phases in life of being closer or more distant.

My mother was an only child, that's why there are so many of us. My grandmother could not have any more kids. My mother never wanted us to be alone. I'd have to say as a kid, I was always the loner sort of. I was the oldest, my sisters would always be together, and then my brothers were always together. We definately fought, but we get along now.

I have an older sister (9 years) and older brother (3 years). My sister and I used to have practically no relationship because of the age difference. For years I longed to get closer to her, but she wasn't interested. It was only after she moved back to NJ and I met my husband that our relationship was born and we're pretty close now. How grateful I am for that! With my brother we were very close after the sudden death of my Dad in '87 partly because we lived together with our Mom. But he's become increasingly distant in the past several years. Not to sound snarky, I partly blame my SIL who dominates his life and only really cares about her family. She's an ice queen and my brother is becoming more and more frosty and emotionally unavailable.

I am an only child who never went through the desire to have siblings.  I was very happy being an only child, and wouldn't say that I was really "alone".  I had a ton of friends growing up, spent alot of time with my parents, and never felt lonely.  As an adult, I certainly don't miss having siblings either. Most of my friends with siblings aren't close to them at all (but, I must say, many of my close friends are only children, I guess birds of a feather do flock together).

I have 2 sisters, I am the "middle child". We have always been close and all still live at home. My whole family is very close. My FI's family is very similar, he has a twin bro and they all still live at home and are really close. I guess that's why our families all get along so well.

I have an older sister (8 years) and older brother (6 years). We are all very close and can talk to each other about pretty much anything. MH is the oldest has 2 younger sisters and they all get along very well. His youngest sister even lives with us. She is getting married in January though.

I'm the youngest of 3. My brother is 13 years older and he was out of the house by the time I was 5. There was a period of 8 years I didn't see him (he lives in Biloxi). Then Katrina hit and he came to live with us for 6 months. We got so close and he loves MH. He walked me down the aisle when I got married. My sis is 4 years older and was more like a mother to me growing up. My mom was really sick. When I was in 1st grade I would always cry in school and they would call her and she never got mad or embarrassed. Anyway, we grew apart about 10 years ago and during my divorce she invited my ex and not me for Christmas and did not come to my wedding. It was heart breaking. We have since mended and are very close again and now she's moving to Nashville next week. Wow this was a long story!

I am the youngest of 4 girls and I absolutely love my sisters and would be lost without them...We are all very close which is why it is hard for me to understand when siblings do not talk to one another. I cannot think of anything that they could do to make me not want to talk to them. My sister closest in age to me lives in CA and I miss her and my niece and nephews so much.

I have 1 full brother that I just met 5 years ago. We are 13 months apart from eachother and we are very close. It sucks I can't see him more because he lives in fl. I have a half brother I met 3 years ago that I do not like. He loves my mother to no end that gave me up for adoption. So I resent him for that. I also have a half sister who I have never met and I have made a personal descion not to because she is a druggie and achlolic. I have a brother and sister who are my adopted brother and sister. We are very also. We did have a falling oyt for a couple years but we have all grown up now and love eachother very much.

I have one brother, a year and a half younger than me.  We were always close I guess, but didn't get along. We had to be close, as our parents were divorced and we kinda had to stick together all the time going back and forth between them.  I was a mean older sister (chased him around with baseball bats hahaha).  We are VERY different people and don't always get along still. But we are very close now as we've gotten older.

My brother and I are so close, not like we are around each other all the time or talk non stop, but it's more like we have a mutual respect for each other. We have been through A LOT since we were little and I think that we just came to the decision a long time ago that we were better off being on the same team. When my father died I was the heir and I handled everything I mean EVERYTHING and I was 23, but I understood my brother just couldn't handle the loss so I had to be strong for the both of us. When my mom had sudden heart failure and was in a coma I was a mess and couldn't be home alone so my brother stayed at my house for a week eventhough he lived and worked in Princeton he would drive back and forth every day. I couldn't ask for a better brother.

I have a younger sister(7 yrs between us) and brother(9 yrs between us). I think you move through different stages and you get closer or grow apart. Of course the 1000 miles between us doesn't help, but my sister is 20 and really finding her own footing now, so I let her do her own thing, but I know she knows she can always come to me. Same thing with my brother. My mom is one of nine, and since I was the only child for a while, I never really got to feel that way because there are so many cousins and our families are so close. We've got pictures of children from 3 different families in the same bathtub kind of close. lol

I'm the oldest of three ... my brother is 6 years younger than me and my sister is 4 years younger than me. I get along well with both of them. I'm able to talk more with my sister, but that's because we're both girls, have more in common and she is naturally easy to get along with so she can keep a conversation going with anyone. Plus she lives in town and my brother's away at college. I think the two of them are much closer than I am with either of them, but they're only 2 years apart and have a lot of mutual friends. And they're both more outgoing and "hipper" than me so they just get along more naturally. I feel like an old fart around them sometimes :P

I have one brother who is three yrs. younger. I used to beat him up when we were children; then he grew bigger than me.We were especially close in our teens & twenties; my friends loved him, too, and always invited him to go out with us.He's one of the most intelligent, funny & creative people I know. We're now in our 30s & our lives are a little hectic so we don't get to spend much time together... but I could still go to him with anything/any issue to talk about & I consider him my best friend.

Very close with my brother - he is my favorite person on earth (tied with Rudy!)In fact, for my bridal shower, he made me a video version of the newlywed game (starring himself & Rudy, asking me questions)... He asked "Who is your favorite person?:" and then the 2 of them pretended to beat the crap out of each other, complete with special effects & sound lol.

My only sibling is my sister. She's 4 years younger then I am and when we were younger we would play together then we went through the teens where we did nothing but annoy each other. Once I left for college we got close again and we are still very close now. She still lives at home about 20min from where FI and I moved about 9 months ago so I see her often which is nice! FI is an only child and I think he's ok with that.

I have one younger brother. There is an almost exactly 8 year age gap (he came home from the hospital on my 8th birthday). because of the large age gap growing up I felt more like a live in babysitter than a sister. Unfortunately we are not really close and I regret that. i kinda wish i new how to take that step....

Last night I was at Shop-Rite & the lady in front of me bought $400.00 worth of food. So the bagger was asking her, how many people she has to feed. Anyway, it turns out she had a 38 yr. old son, a 28 yr old son (both out of the home), a 9 year old, and a 2 yr old baby. Not idea how old she was, but she looked great. She said if she could, she would have 10 more.

I have one sister who is 2 years older than me.When we were younger, we fought CONSTANTLY.  We never really had a good phase until she was 18 and went to college.  I think we were a bad age gap (close enough that we were usually in the same school, but far enough that I was less mature).  We were also really different. As adults, we have been much, much better.  My sister is very competitive and has a jealous streak, so there have been some tough times -- she was really bad to me when I was in law school and got a "great" job (great paycheck, horrible hours and quality of life), I think because she was really jealous.  She didn't even come to my law school graduation because she "didn't think [she] could be nice to me for a whole day."  So odd.  But whatever, she could have gone to law school too if she had wanted?  I think she's finally gotten to a place where she realizes that we have very different but good lives, and now we get along really well.

wow- your sister sounds like a gem! How could you not go to your own siblings graduation party? If she's two years older than you by the time you finished law school she had to be at least 27.  I don't think with my siblings we're particularly competitive with each other, because we're all so different with different interests and goals.  I also have a very large age gap with the youngest two, so there'd never be a reason to be competitive with them.  The two I'm close in age to are brothers, so perhaps the gender difference is why I never felt in competition.  The one thing I could say I was super jealous of was when my dad paid for my brother to go to college down in Florida (I was sent to a state school of which I am currently paying back the loans). That situation really got under my skin because I was the better student and didn't think it was fair.  I think that resulted in a lot of anger at my dad though and not actually at my brother. I couldn't blame him for taking advantage of a sweet deal :)
