who hand-addressed their invites?

I'm getting ready to adress my invitations, and I'm prepared to address them by hand. I like that it is more personal that way, and I don't have that many invitations anyway...My question is: do I print or use script? Did any of you do this? any tips?

are you serious?  i've recevied one hand addressed invitation and it was awful.

I did not.  My handwriting is HORRENDOUS so I printed them in a fancy script.  I think print/script definitely depends on what your handwriting looks like in each font.  If you were able to show us a sample, I think it woudl be easier.

I had my sister hand address them because my hand writing is not that great and she has much better handwriting. She used script and I think it looked just as nice and reasonably cheaper then paying to get them done! Only tip I have for when we put them together, when she addressed the outside envelope she also did the inside one at the same time. It saved time with putting them together because you were not searching for the inside to go with the outside. Hope this helps!

Why is that so bad? If you have great hand writing, I see no issues with it at all. Actually,  my mom hand wrote ours. I thought they came out great.

Thanks! I still haven't figured out how to easily post pics, but I think I have very nice, legible handwriting in either print or script. SO I guess script is the more formal way to go?

If you have nice script then do it in script.I had my invite person print wrap labels for me. I didn't want to shell out for caligraphy and my handwriting is terrible. I never handwrite envelopes for anything, not even Christmas cards.

Script is more formal, but I'd use the form of writing that is neater and prettier, whichever that is for you.If you have nice handwriting, I like that idea way more than printing.  Traditionally, addresses on wedding invitations are supposed to be hand written.

My envelopes were handfed right through my printer at work.  It was free, and mighty fine if I might say so myself! :)  But If you have great handwriting, I don't see why it would be a big deal.  My handwriting looks like a kindergarten kids.

imo, i don't think it looks as nice unless you have perfect penmanship.  there are so many options available such as pritning which doesn't cost anything.

who says she doesn't have perfect penmanship erika??? GOD! :)

I would buy a really nice pen and write it in script. If you have really nice handwriting it could look like a caligrapher did it.

Print the addresses on the clear labels from Avery that you get at Office Max.  It's really hard to tell that its not hand written.  The label disappears but you have the nice computer font.

I have to disagree that a clear label disappears once you put it on an envelope...I don't think it looks horrible, but I would prefer printing right on the envelope.  I can still see clear labels when I receive a letter with them.

I agree with chels on this one - i did the clear labels for my save the dates, since they were less formal and more fun. But you DEFINITELY saw the avery clear labels. it didn't look bad, and looked much better than white labels, but it doesn't do the trick.

Either print from your computer on your envelopes or use clear labels if you cannot afford the calligraphy route.  IMO, you are spending so much on the wedding, what's a little extra $ for the extra touch. Just please consider it.

i agree with the clear labels, you can def see them, but i also agree with lola that you are spending this much money why hand address them.  again, totally up to you, but imo the invitations def sets the tone for the wedding.

For the exact reasons Erika states, I would go for handwriting -- you can definitely see even good labels, and I don't think they're fancy enough or nice enough looking for wedding invitations.  I understand wrap-around labels and such that are done for aesthetic purposes, but otherwise printing on labels or envelopes looks cheap to me.  Neat handwriting seems more appropriate to me, and I think sets a nicer tone for the wedding.

I went with the wrap labels because I saw it as a nice compromise. I thought they were sharp looking but still way less expensive than hand caligraphy. I also  didn't do inner envelopes.I honestly think the "addresses must be handwritten thing" is a bit of an antiquated tradition.  I'd say I receive many more invitations that are printed directly on the envelope or with labels than hand caligraphy.

This is tough- everyone has very different opinions on this. I'm pretty set on hand-addressing them. I like the personal feel to them, and while it will save money, I think it is personal. I appreciate all the advice though! I'm going to practice writing out the addresses this week, and hopefully they come out nice!

I absolutely agree with Erika. IMO, I wouldn't even consider hand writing them out unless your writing is as good as a calligraphers.

Well since you're set on handwriting them, I say script. :) You're never gonna get 100% of people to agree with you, so do what you think is best for you guys.

i don't see anything wrong wtih handwritten at all.  it certainly beats labels.  i learned a script and used it.  i think they look great.

allie - i don't either....as long as it's not MY handwriting. i'm not exaggerating when I say i have HORRIBLE HORRIBLE handwriting. My mom even yells at me when I sign the checks at work because she said it looks "so unprofessional!"

i don't like the look of the clear labels either.  my handwriting isn't the best, but i did handwrite my envelopes back in the stone age when i got married.i agree with tiffany, it is antiquated...and the truth is, no one cares, except for the bride and perhaps some stick up the butt relative or frenemy that would be looking for something to criticise.
