Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Exiting the church

My wedding is 10.16.10.  I'm trying to think of ideas for what the guests can do when my *husband* and I exit the church at the end of the ceremony.I don't like the idea of throwing rice or birdseed.  I like the idea of blowing bubbles, except that I just saw this done at my friend's wedding, and everyone was so busy blowing bubbles as my friend & her husband walked out of the church, that no one was clapping or cheering for them.  So it was kind of silent as they were walking out of the church and I thought that was awkward...My dad & stepmom released doves at their wedding, but I'm not crazy about that idea either. What are some other ideas??

Re: Exiting the church

  • Why not just have the guests clap and cheer, its the end of one celebration and the beginning of another I think that it is something to clap and cheer about, I think I may do that.
  • We are having people ring little bells, that way people can at least cheer!
  • In Poland we have a tradition where, as the couple leaves the church, everyone cheers and clasps, while the bridal party throw coins in the air and above the couple. Once the coins fall to the ground, all the children that are present at the wedding rush to help the couple pick up the coins - girls help the bride and boys help the groom. Sometimes during or after the party, bridesmaids count the coins, whoever has more will be rulling the family budget :) I am going to incorporate this into our wedding. Best, Ela
  • I've been thinking about the same thing. My idea is ribbon wands and/or pinwheels. I've never seen it done in my hometown before so I'm not sure how it will work out.
