Makeup Artist Travel Issues

Hey Ladies! I have kind of a strange question. I am about 8 months out till my wedding and have my hair stylist booked for my wedding, but not a makeup artist. Here is my deal--I LOVE mac makeup and to be honest, I do a decent job on myself---so I am looking for someone who is great with makeup. I don't want to look trampy on my wedding day, but I am def not looking for a natural barely there look--just not my taste--ya know? I am looking for a talented artist, who works with mac makeup and has a great personality. But here's the catch---I live by the Jersey shore but my wedding is at the Palace so I am using all northern NJ vendors. I would want the artist that I end up choosing for my wedding to do my makeup throughout the year so that we get to know each other. I don't mind occasionally travelling north for that to be done, but have any of your artists come to your houses (besides the wedding day) to do your makeup? One artist wanted to charge me $175 for makeup and travel fee bc of where I live. Am I crazy, or is that high? Please let me know because I just started my makeup artist search and I need to know if I am expecting too much.

Evelyn Abanto uses MAC. Google for her website. My cousin swears by John at the MAC counter at Freehold Nordstrom. I would go to him to have your makeup done and ask if he travels etc.

I used Gina Brozon for my wedding and she uses mac.  She came to my place for my trial and then traveled to me in Spring Lake the day of my wedding.  She can come to you or you can go to the salon that she works out of in Montclair. She charges 40 bucks for a trial.  I don't know why you would need to work with her throughout the next few months.  If you don't like something that she does just say it at your trial.  Why would you want to spend all that money before your wedding just to have her do your makeup more often?

Christina P- Info in Bio. You really need this artist to be someone you meet with several times to get to know you? I think a trial or two should do the trick.

I completely agree kewltif! I just like to get my makeup done for special occasions like my bday, my bridal shower, bachelorette party--and I was hoping to have this artist do my makeup for all of those. I'm just afraid I may have to suck it up and constantly travel up north for these services instead of having it done in my house---which would be more convenient for me.

I'm sure you could get someone to come to your house, but you will pay a premium for it. On your wedidng day there are often several girls getting their makeup done. For your birthday it's only going to be you, so it's going to cost you more to get someone to drive out for that.

I'm also using Gina Brozon. She used some MAC products on me during my trial. You need to go to Montclair for a trial but she'll travel to you for your wedding ... I don't know if she'd travel to you for a trial. If she does, I imagine it'd cost extra. If you want makeup done for these events, maybe you'd be better off going to a mall makeup counter.

Tif is right! Plus take into consideration the amount of the service provided, plus gas and tolls, plus the time spent driving to you, doing your makeup and then driving back. That's time they are losing where they could be doing other clients. I'm sure that's why the quotes you are getting is around $175.

Gina does not charge for coming to you for a trial.  At least when I used her it did not cost me any extra for her to come to me.You really dont need to have more then one or two makeup trails.  Once you get someone you are comfortable with you will be happy.

Why don't you pick someone who lives closer to your house then? You could go to them more easily when you want your makeup done (or have a lower travel fee if you want them to come to you). Most makeup artists will travel for weddings, so someone close to you could still travel to wherever you're getting ready on your wedding day.

I just had a trial with Jillyan Scarpa today and LOVE her. I was the same way, I didnt want to look over done, but I didnt want it to be too natural and she got it perfectly. She used to work for Mac and uses their products. Her salon is in Little Falls (by Wayne). That is where the trial was, but she will travel to you the day of. Not sure if she will travel to you for other occasions or what she would charge. Here is her salon's website... http://www.skinbarandpaint.com/

Thanks girls--I appreciate your feedback. I guess I'll suck it up and travel to them just to see if I find someone I really like...such silly wedding stuff!

Def Evelyn Abanto. When I saw her work I knew she was who I was looking for. I didnt want neutral either, but of course appropriate. My eyes were smokey and dramatic and I loved the look. My pics are in my bio and on her site as well. Good luck! evelynabanto.com
