I was amazed in crowded Venice, people had their dogs off leash everywhere and the dogs stayed right by their side. How is that possible? Harley would knock people down to say hello if he was off leash. They are very well mannered over the pond!

I'm always shocked by the ppl who do that walking down the street in NYC (even though there is a leash law) My favorite is this one dog I used to pass daily who held his own leash in his mouth. Technically he's on a leash...I'm not sure how specific the NYC law is or if it MUST be in the owners hand.

Laurms, I'm not a dog person, but I LOVE when I see dogs on their walks with their leashes or toys in their mouths.  There was a dog in my old neighborhood who used to carry a newspaper with him on his morning walk.  I don't know why, but I find that behavior adorable.

It made me laugh especially to picture the cops wanting to yell at the owner for not following the leash law but technically....they are. I would love to train my family's dog to do something cute like that!

Uppereast, when I lived in Brooklyn, we had a shelty (looked like lassie but smaller) and he would put the leash in his mouth, run to each corner and sit and wait for my father, my father would take the leash, walk him across the stree, then he would do the same to the next corner.  The entire approx 10 blocks to the park.
