NWR: I find it really sad...

that Old Navy is open on Thanksgiving. Really? They open at noon. And then for BF they open at 3am.I just find it ridiculous that they're opening on thanksgiving. Anyone else find it odd?

i'm sure that means that banana and gap will also be open.  i'm sure these stores are struggling and hoping to get all the business they can if that means to be open on thanksgiving.  do i agree, no, but if you work in retail esp during the holidays their hours are nutty.

I know Kmart has been open on Thanksgiving for quite a few years now.

If they're going to open, why open so late when people are mostly already involved in their plans?  That makes me sad for the staff that has to work. But based on how many 30% off offers I've gotten from ON, Gap and BR in the past few weeks, and how many F&F offers I've gotten from other companies recently (Sephora is having a second one, for example), and how many one-day sales are going on (like half of Neiman Marcus is 30-40% off today), things still seem really bad.

I think it makes me sadder that Veterans' Day is used to promote crazy sales.

Well, Memorial Day always has been a huge sale day, and that's a very solemn holiday because it is only about people who died (right?).  Veterans' Day is at least about those who survived too (right?).

I feel bad for anyone who has to work any major holiday. The stores are crazy because of sales and you are away from your family. I agree about the memorial day/veterans day thing.

for those who are against sales on such holidays, does this mean you do not take advantage of the sales?

Thanksgiving is different to me than Memorial Day, although I guess I don't really tend to shop that day either (usually at a party of some sort).I agree though- if they are going to be open, it should be the morning, not the afternoon!Who really needs to get Christmas shopping done on Thanksgiving?DH's company has gotten ridiculous with the holidays lately too.  He used to have the day after thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and then sometimes if a holiday was a Thursday they'd also give them that Friday off.Now he works all of the above.
