How long is too long?

So I have been trying to contact a videographer and havn't made contact.

I called Friday on my lunch break (3pm) left a message.
I called today(Tuesday) on my lunch break (3pm) did not leave msg.
I also sent him an email tonight (10pm).

I know its around the holiday and he may be on vacation but how long would yall give him to return my call?

He was a preferrred vendor from my venue (referred) should I contact the venue and ask about him?

Also, and this worries me the most the voice mail that picks up is a generic one "Please leave a msg for NUMBER".

Undecided sigh
I really wanted to talk to him b/c his packages are priced right and I liked what I saw AND he offers a 15% discount if the wedding is at my venue.

It is very likely he is on vacation this week.  IF you are worried about vendors booking up, I would continue calling other vendors to get prices or set up meetings, just in case the preferred guy falls through, but I wouldn't commit for a few weeks until you give the other guy a chance to get back.  But if you aren't in a hurry (I can't remember when your wedding is), I'd just give him a few weeks.  This time of year everyone is on vacation it seems like!

Have you checked to be sure the number is correct?  Does he have a website? Can you confirm with the venue?

I would give at least a week for him to get back to you. Since you originally tried contacting him over a holiday weekend he may just be out of the office and hasn't even checked his work phone/email yet. Or still catching up on other work related calls/emails before he has a chance to get back to you. I think us brides sometimes expect these vendors to get back to us within a day, but I don't think that really ever happens just due to the volume of work they have. I would go at least a week before worrying about it. And checking out other videographers is a good idea too, just in case.

I'm a little OCD about people calling me back and "professionalism," so I would start moving on personally.  Why would his voicemail be generic if he is a reputable, good business?  Also, why if he was on vacation would he not set his voicemail to state "we will be out of the office for the holiday..." or have a kickback e-mail saying that they will get back to you as soon as they return from the holiday.

IDK, i would start looking elsewhere.  I would also be weary when he calls you back, I would take these kind of things as warning signs.

I would agree with the earlier posts and give him a week or so.  I know I've gone on vacation and forgotten to set up my out of office reply but I don't think that's made me any less professional.  Who knows, it could have been a family emergency and he hasn't had a chance to check back in on work stuff.  I hope he returns your call soon and everything will work out as you envisioned!

OCD is no excuse for high maintenance..

High maintenance and thinking a business should return messages within 48 hours during business days or deliver a proper response as to why they won't are two different things :)

If I owned a videographer business (or any business) and knew you were interested in hiring me I would call you back asap.  The length of time between responses probably would be the thing I would worry least about though.  I think it's really odd his voicemail is generic and that would probably make me worry about it most.

His website is where  i got the number for.  I will give him another  week or so and if I don' hear from him I will check with the venue and see if they know whats going on.  My wedding is next June so I'm trying to stay ahead of the game.  Tonight I have a meeting with our stationer (spelling) and already booked a baker.
