depositing checks?

We have a joint bank account already.  If checks are made out to Chelsea and Michael Newlastname or Mr. and Mrs. Newlastname...do we both need to sign, or just one?

If it's payable to both, then you should both sign it OR to make it easier you can simply write on the back: for deposit only.....

We both had to sign every check.

I've had no problems with just one signature. In fact, I have my own account and just today I deposited a check that was mr. and mrs. mark *** and I was able to put it in my own account without his signature. That was Wachovia.

If I remember correctly from the bar exam (eh, maybe?), I think only one person technically has to sign it. But I think banks can be stricter if they want.

If it says "and" then you both "technically" have to sign. If it says "or" then only one. But you can just write for deposit only on all of the checks and the account number and you should be good.

Our checks were made out to Mr. & Mrs. G, and only he signed them all since I hadn't changed my name yet.  Our bank didn't give us a problem at all.

If you have Wachovia..it may depend on the branch, because the one I went to made us both sign every check.. I would just check with your bank.

I deposited ones made out to either him, me, or both of us into my bank account that doesn't have his name on it. I don't think they really care who signs them. He signed his name on the ones made out to him, I signed the ones made out to me or to both of us...no problems.

I've always had to pause before writing a check for a wedding card - to whom should it be made out?? Bride Newlastname? Bride Maiden & Groom? Groom and Bride LastName? I usually go with the latter cause I think they'll get it eventually and as long as the husband's full name is on there, good to go.

I went to the bank and asked them how to handle it as each is different.  I really didn't want to have to sign over 50 checks.  Anyway, they just gave me a stamp to stamp the back of each check - in effect it was the same as writing "for deposit only" on the back.  But, both our names are on the account I was depositing into.
