Am I crazy??

So my fiance and I are paying for most of the wedding ourselves and since we don't make all that much it's very VERY DIY. Am I crazy for working on wedding projects already? The wedding's in 9 months. I've made the ring bearer pillow and painted the basket that our daughter will use as flower girl. My Bridesmaids and I went out armed with coupons and bought ribbon and some centerpieces as well. Oh and my mom bought my dress and I bought the flower girl dress already. I'm not stressed about any of it and the plan is to have everything done (aside from minor things) 2 weeks before the wedding so that we can enjoy the Summer and have fun. We're also going away in May so I don't want to leave anything for the last minute and be stressed during our vacation. So am I crazy?

Nope, I think you are very smart.  Only thing is to make sure they are all in a clean, dry place well protected.  You don't want your DIY to be ruined and have to spend more money to fix it.

If you have the time to get it done now, then that's fine. I don't think that that's crazy. However, an honest opinion ... if you're truly on a budget (and really, who isn't?), then IMO it makes more sense to skip certain things rather than DIY them. You may only pay 50% of the original price if you DIY it, but you'll pay 0% if you just skip it entirely. Flower girls and ring bearers fall into the "Skip It" category for me, but I can understand wanting special little kids (especially your own) in your wedding. Anyway, no, I don't think you're crazy. But I think a big disadvantage to doing things way ahead of time is that you (collective "you", no you yourself) might think you need to have certain things, and as you get closer to the wedding you may realize that it's not needed at all. Or you may wish that you saved that money for something more important. Just some food for thought.

I was working on things a year out.  I wish I had done more of it that early.

I have 9 months to and I have been trying to get all my DIY projects done as well.  I dont want to be rushing trying to do it at the end.  And if you can use coupons thats even better.

I would just make sure you have a clear vision of the day and how everything fits together before you get too far ahead of yourself.  Otherwise, if you change your mind you may have wasted time and money on things you don't end up using.  But if you're sure, it never hurts to be on top of things.

Sounds like a good idea to me. As I got closer and had nothing left to plan I wound up adding more stuff on, so just don't fall into that trap!

I agree with pp... if you know what you want than go ahead and do the DIY.. but if you think you might change your mind hold off a bit.

Thanks for your input guys!We have everything packed in cloth bags so nothing turns yellow.I can't not have my daughter part of the wedding, plus the flower girl end of things only cost us like $30. That's the dress, basket, headband, and petals. Shoes I'm buying much closer to the date.Anything I haven't been absolutely sure about I haven't done. I'm holding off til I'm 100% positive!

nope! my programs took 2 weeks.  DIY tends to drag on and on... as long as you have a clear idea of what you want, why not start.  however, if you tend to change your mind, don't go crazy buying things that you'll just waste money on and/or have to return. also a note:   DIY does NOT always mean less money.  i spend a ton making some things that could have cost much, much less if i didn't DIY.

I was worried about that happening but searched high and low for stuff already made at a good price. I got the bouquet I'll toss for $6.00 which was 1/2 the price if I made it.

You're not crazy at all. You take a lot of stress out of the planning when you do it that far in advance.
