Career Aspirations

What did you want to be when you grew up? Has anyone ever wanted an out-of-the-ordinary job? Anything funny that your FI/DH or siblings wanted to be?I wanted to be Hela Young, the New Jersey Lottery lady in the 1980s-90s (the lady who would turn the balls and announce the numbers). FI wanted to sell hot dogs from a street cart.

Erika - the professional babysitter idea didnt happen to come from the babysitters club books, did it?  I wanted to start my own babysitters club...never happened. I have always wanted to work as an activities director at a senior living community.

I always wanted to be a criminal defense lawyer.  The whole field intrigues me. I still love to watch the court tv channel. In High School I did decent. 86 average. My counselor told me I would never get into a pre-law program with those grades.  Now I answer phones and am someones BIOTCH.  Sad.

Haha I was more of a Yolanda Vega (sp) fan!Sister wanted to be a lawyer or a baker (both of which she would be great at) but she's in communications. I wanted to be a mom, a teacher, a ballet teacher, a Rockette, a princess, I pretty much just wanted a job where I could dress pretty!

I wanted to be a lawyer when I was little little, like 7 or 8. Then I wanted to be a history teacher, then science. I went to school to be a biology teacher and hated it when I went to do student teaching, so I didn't follow through with actually becoming a teacher (certification and all that). I worked at an assisted living for just under a year and wanted to do something with that, like get my MPH or an MBA with a focus on healthcare management, to become a licensed administrator. Now I'm thinking about going back to school to become a CPA. I work for an accounting firm currently but I don't have the credentials I need to go further. I still go back and forth with the assisted living/nursing home thing and at some point I will probably go back to it out of necessity. DH has always known he wanted to do something in finance, like his dad.

When I was in high school I always thought I wanted to go into the psychology field. When I was in 12th grade I worked as an activities coordinator at an assisted living. Hated psych in college and changed my major after one semester to Health Administration. I've been working at a hospital for the last 4.5 years doing research and finished my MPH in May... of course now that I decide I want to go to medical school I just feel like I'm too old (even though I'm only 26), but would have to complete so many prerequisites AND take the MCAT... been throwing around the idea of doing a post-baccalaureate RN program after we get married. We'll see...

I wanted to be something different every week growing up.  I went to college for photography and ended up as a lawyer-go figure. Danes- I had a way lower avg. than that in HS and college-if you still want to be a lawyer go for it!

I wanted to be a Vet for the LONGEST time! But then I realized that I couldn't handle seeing sick animals. When I got to HS I decided I wanted to be teacher. I'm happy where I am now, but DEF want to look into something else lol. DH wanted to work with computers- some high-end type of company. He ended up being a computer teacher.

My 5th grade year book said I wanted to be a painter.  I meant an artist but i had messed it up.  That was my first sign that I shouldnt be an artist.  That and I cant actually paint for sh!t.  I did take art history in college though and learned that anything can be art.  Even a toilet.

Truck driver, dead serious.  And I still would!  I love music and I figure if I have no musical talent, at least I can ride around and listen to it all day.  And oh the places I would see...

I just wanted to be famous. And since growing up I was so tall and ppl used to tell me I should model, I actually did dabble in that for a while. I could never be a famous singer bc I don't have the talent, but I wanted to be a model/actress. And I wanted my break out role to be the female lead in a Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy (I had the BIGGEST crush on him! lol) MH wanted to be an OBGYN or a football player. I still wouldn't mind being famous (and still wouldn't mind starring with Patrick Dempsey!) and MH would love to coach football. haha

I always flipped back and forth between being an artist or a lawyer.  Was actually pretty good at art and got some scholarships, but I was tired of always financially struggling.  I ended up on the lawyer track, a true idealist, and thought I could help "change the world."  ALmost a decade later, I now am a little more realistic,  and work in government as a lawyer so I feel I do my part.  I still dream of someday retiring and working as an artist.FI - i think a firefighter.  He ended up a lawyer too!

When I was very little, I would say that I wanted to be a garbage man.  Or Jewish (it seemed really cool because it was pretty unique where I lived, and 8 days of presents seemed way better than Christmas). But by the time I was in 8th grade, I wanted to be a lawyer at a large law firm (particularly after The Firm came out -- haha).  Be careful what you wish for...

my mom said that when I was really young i always said I wanted to be a teacher.  from what I remember i wanted to be a lawyer..then an entertainment lawyer...then when i got to college i wanted to be the CEO of my own record label.  Now i aspire to be a plus size model..even if it's just some catalog stuff.  My goal was to have gone to a casting before my 30th bday but i plan on losing a couple pounds before i actually go in for one.

Hahaha Einat -- I have no idea where garbage man came from.  I don't think I actually wanted to do it ... it was just a weird thing that a 4 year old would say (but apparently often). I was totally serious about being Jewish though (this is me from like 4-6).  I drew menorahs and dreidels all over my Barbie house, and loved to go over to our Jewish next door neighbors' house for the holidays (they would invite me because they loved how interested I was).  I guess I just knew at a very young age that I wasn't cut to be a Catholic :)
