This might sound kind of dumb, but what exactly IS a groom's cake and when do people typically serve it? I have not seen one done at any receptions I've been to, but from what I've seen it's usually a cake done to reflect the groom's interests. Wait, I lie, the only groom's cakes I've seen have already been cut up and are usually in wax people for people to take (personally, it's always been done in a really unappetizing manner and no one takes it).
I was thinking of doing one for my FI with an Eagles theme (which kills me b/c I am a Giants fan, but know my FI will get a kick out of it) and serving it at our RD instead of at the reception. At our reception we already have wedding cake, plus our guests get their choice of another dessert, so it's already a lot. I'd rather do it at the RD among our family & BP where people will actually get a chance to see it and enjoy it. I'm just not sure if that's the correct thing to do with a groom's cake, or if it's traditionally served at the reception.
What have you ladies done/planning to do?
