What songs were/are on your Do Not Play list?

I know it's a matter of personal preference, but I just want to make sure we aren't forgetting any that we may want added to the list.

participation songs (Chicken Dance, YMCA, Macarena)
    rap/hip-hop
    Butterfly Kisses (ick)
    MH didn't want country songs
What a Wonderful World (played at late MIL's funeral and makes my in-laws sad, so this was a personal request)

Our DJ requested that we check off some boxes on their website for what we wanted, and we were able to make additional requests: http://www.fantasydjs.com/wedding_guide.php

Michael Jackson songs seem to be a big hit at most weddings I've attended. We had one friend doing the dance with a napkin around his face :P

    Any type of Line dances
no more than 1 polka( his family wants polka..I am limiting it)

    No Country
    No Rock/heavy metal
    No Electric Slide
    No justin Beiber
everything else is fine I suppose but our DJ knows us and what we like to listen to so I doubt there will be any DJ issues

No line dance (I made an exception for cotton eye joe since we had a lot of country fans)
No Bee Gees or other 70's music
    No 90s rap

No participation or line dances. Period.

We actually want some metal and corny stuff, but our friends and family get it. Finalizing our wedding music is one of the last things we have to do.

No participation dances (electric slide, chicken dance, conga line, etc).
No country music or line dances
No Rihanna, Pink, U2, Black Eyed Peas or Justin Bieber (hate all of them).
No songs made into dance remixes.

We won't be advertising requests, but if someone requests something that doesn't fit with the music we like, they won't play it.

Here's what's on my list so far (yes I know it's a bit repetitive of what others have said already):
    YMCA
    the chicken dance
stayin' alive - the bee gees
every breath you take - the police
total eclipse of the heart - bonnie tyler
    macerana
my heart will go on - celine dion

    Hope it helps :)

    I know I'm repeating some:
    any song with specific choreography
    Old TIme Rock & Roll
    no Justin Bieber
    no Rhianna
only 1 Katy Perry song allowed (FI's request)
limit the amount of autotuned songs (maybe 1 Ke$ha tops)

    no songs about breaking up:
    Band of Gold
    Scene from an Italian Restaurant

No country or rap. Play some good stuff from the 80s. The ONLY organized dance song will be the Cha Cha slide. No Ke$ha.  No Justin B. No Miley.

The only reason this is even going on our list is because when we asked our junior ushers (age 7 and 9) to be in the wedding for programs before hand they immediately said yes and that they were practicing their cha cha slide for the late night party.  How can I say sorry boys who are soooooo adorable but we don't like that...I will get out there and do it with them :0)

They play it every year at my theatre group's dinner dance as a "get the middle aged people up and dancing" song.  The DJ never seems to understand that if they put on more contemporary music older people WILL dance!  There's other oldies that I like, it's just this one that annoys me.

I g ot really specific since these songs have a way of sneaking into songlists:

    The naughty list:
Celebrate - Kool & The Gang
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough - Michael Jackson
It Takes Two - Rob Base
Jump Around - House of Pain
    Let Me Clear My Throat
Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
    Love Shack - B52's
September - Earth, Wind & Fire
We are Family - Sister Sledge
    White Wedding - Billy Idol

No 80s, 90s, motown, funk, rap, old school, Jackson 5, MJ, or C&C Music Factory

I think that about covers it lInnocent

So what will be heard at your wedding, soontobemrsb723? You've pretty much eliminated anything that will get people moving! (Even if I don't agree with most of your "naughty list," I can understand it  - in fact, "Celebrate" and "We Are Family" were on ours, and "White Wedding" is just wrong - but no Motown? No '80s? Seriously?)

A lot of people go crazy with the do not play list, to the point that they suck all the fun out of the event. Pick a few crowd pleasers, even if you're not a fan of them. Think about your guests - will all of them be enjoying nothing but hipster indie music all night?

Among what we said no to was "TiCk ToK" (or however K-E-dollar sign-H-A spells it), "I've Got a Feeling," "Hey Soul Sister," "I'm Yours," and participation dances that aren't "Time Warp."

I had a write in section on my rsvp's for guest requests and between 100+ guests, I have a ton of unique and fun songs to fill the night :)
