MGs - Name Change?

What a crazy whirlwind the last 2 weeks have been! Sorry I've been a bad knottie and didn't have the chance to post just prior to the wedding.  I'll post reviews and pics later this week I swear, much to tell!

I'm posting this now b/c as of yet I haven't done any steps toward changing my name figuring I'd probably need our marriage license anyhow.  I thought I could find a straight foward process outlined somewhere by the state, but haven't been able to find anything.  Anyone have any info or know where I need to start?

Icing on the cake, I just got a lovely phone call from the county clerk where we got married who told us we had the wrong municipality down and a cert with a ton of cross outs, so they need a letter from minister to correct it before submitting it AND the state might even still reject it with all the cross outs. So, I won't have out cert for 4-8 weeks now, or longer if the state rejects it. Sigh, how bad is that and does all the name change stuff then have to get put on hold till we have the official cert or can I get by with the carbon copy we have as is?

Sorry to hear about your delay. We still haven't gotten our certificate back yet either, though they assure me it will be any day now....

First: Social Security, Second: Driver's License, Third: Everything else your name is on such as Credit cards, Bank Accounts and so on.
The social security office will need a copy of the actually certificate in order to change your name, so you will have to wait until you get that before you can change anything.

Kinda Funny: we filled out the license in BLUE ink and we were suppose to use BLACK ink, technically they could have rejected it, but they didn't.  Wasn't funny at the time, but looking back it is.

    Don't do it- it's a pain!

Ha, ok. You need your marriage certificate pretty much for everything, so you can't do much until then. I'm not even halfway done with changing everything, it's taking forever. Still haven't doen my license lol.

All I did was google "name change after marriage" and found what I needed instantly.  I really don't get why so many people have trouble with this.

Anyway.... I went to SS then DMV then my bank.  Otherwise just made calls.

I got my certficate back a week after I was married... I agree with person who said dont do it... what a pain this is!  ha ha

Go to SS first, then DMV, then Passport- you cant do passport unless you've done DMV.  Banks in person, then credit cards Im just writing it on my statements... Insurance cards and work W2's... it doesnt end..

My issue is with credit cards and with school- CCs needed to send me something and I was supposed to send it back- just too lazy. School they need me to go there with my marriage license and since school is in NJ and work is in NYC, I am never around NJ when the office is open.

my comment wasn't towards you, doll. i just don't get why knotties always have to ask "what do i do?!". try google first.  i understand asking where you went first or what's easiest.  i dunno, a big pet peeve of mine on all boards when they don't use google prior to posting.

    Thanks all!

Lola, I actually did a quite a bit of googling before posting and maybe i used bad search terms (tried several)...but all that was coming up were these kits for name changes that all had strings attached so I was bit cautious. They all  cost $ and I was suprised myself there wasn't some easy answer to just come up in my first 10 search results, so I'd appreciate if you spared me the attitude.

Also, it's been my impression these boards were for past and present brides that were both happy and eager to help one another...maybe you should find something else to do with your time if you don't really fit this description...

yay! I'm glad that was helpful for someone- I did everything in under a month once I got the marriage license. Just to touch on what Allie said - my school didn't require me to come in person. I dud just about everything via fax or mail so check with your school.

That's sweet of you to say .Someone who has been around more than about 100 posts would know I am nice & helpful.  The attitude wasn't towards just your post, just a peeve in general which you as the OP took the brunt.

Jaime- I've tried every way to get my school to do it without having to be there, but they insist I have to. Trust me, I've tried!

Jewls- I think you need to cop the tude as well. And anyone can come on these boards, they don't have to be happy and chipper to what everyone says. Heck, they don't even have to be brides. LolaMinnie is allowed to have an opinion, just like you. Don't go around telling her what she should be doing with her time.
