What is everyone's favorite cold remedies?

I caught a cold over the weekend.  Besides the obvious drinking tea and getting rest does anyone have any cold remedies that always seem to work?  I am trying to kick this cold in the butt so I am feeling better for Christmas.  I am also drinking that emergency C powder drink.

I start taking Zicam as soon as I feel a cold coming on.  It definitely worked when my DH had a cold the week of our wedding (at least that's what I believe!).  I think it's most effective when you start taking as soon as you think you're getting a cold.

I swear by Airborne - but I think you really need to take it as soon as you start to feel something coming on. I've done that for the last two years, and haven't actually gotten "sick, sick" since then. Don't forget chicken noodle soup!

I used to use Zicam, the qtip one you put in your nose. But I haven't seen it around lately - that worked like a charm. Netti Pot? I know many people who swear by this but I can't do it. I take Halls Citrus with Vitamin C and whatever cold medicine I can get my hands on. Take the cold meds around the clock for one or two days. And eventhough everyone says it, the more rest and overexertion on your body the quicker you feel better.

    Feel Better!! =)

I love having Afrin on hand, but you can only use that for three days in a row. But it's a LIFESAVER when you're trying to sleep at night and you can't breathe out your nose.

Other than that, sorry, I don't have any suggestions. Nothing seems to work for me. Feel better!

That's what I was going to suggest.  Theraflu and lots and lots of sleep... as soon as you feel the drowsiness kicking it just let it go and don't fight it regardless of what time it is.  None of the Vitamin C things or Airborne have ever worked for me as either preventative or while-sick medications.

BE CAREFUL ABOUT ZICAM!!!!!!! The reason it is likely still not on the market is because there is some chemical component in it that is dangerous.....a friend of my mother's actually lost ALL sense of taste as a result of taking it! Her taste buds are destroyed and the doctor says its a direct result of the Zicam, and that may be why it's no longer being sold.
Sorry, don't mean to freak anyone out! But on happier, less taste-bud threatening remedies, I swear by Emergen-C and DayQuil always seems to help!

The Zicam nose swabs were discontinued for the senses problem but the quick melts and mouth spray are still available.   Iswear by this stuff.

The same exact thing happened to a friend's father. After using Zicam, he now has zero sense of taste! It's been over a year now and his sense of taste has not returned. Try a Neti pot or just a regular saline spray.
    Feel better!

I swear by Mucinex D.  If you are prone to sinus congestion followed by chest congestion, it works for both.  It's a 12-hour formula and I find that I start breathing better right away and it continues pretty much the whole time.  You just have to get it from the pharmacy counter b/c they require ID.
