Veil or no veil????

Ok, so I ordered my wedding dress beginning of June and they called me in September to let me know it already came in (not getting married until next July and wasn't expected it to come in for a couple more months ).  They wanted me to come in and see it...not for a fitting of course.  Dress fit great and I loved it! (yay!  I was haviing nightmares that it wouldn't fit or I'd hate it since it had been a few months since I saw it).....

Anyway, I tried on different veils and wasn't crazy about any of them.  The one I liked best was a medium-length, single layer with tiny clear crystals on the edge.  Very simple, but even that I wasn't crazy about.  That's when I realized it may not be the veil but just wearing a veil at all.  I"m thinking possibly a comb with pearls/beads on it instead of a veil.

Have any brides not worn a veil and regretted it later or vice versa?  I don't want to look back and say "why didn't I wear one?"

I only wore a veil for the actually ceremony (20mins) and the cocktail hour, I took it off for the reception.  I could have gone either way with it.  I found the veil to be more annoying then anything else.  It also helps to have your hair done in the style you plan to have for your wedding, to get the full effect.  Maybe you can schedule a trial and then go try on veils, it may make you feel differently one way or another about it.  Just a thought.

I actually went and talked with my hair stylist yesterday and she said the same thing.  Once the hair is done in the style I'll like we can try a veil, a comb, maybe beads/something scattered...

That's the other thing - we're getting married outside and not that it's normally extremely windy in July, a few people I know who had outdoor ceremonies said the veil got in the way.

I know I am only planning on wearing the veil during the ceremony, pictures, and first dances. Thereafter I will take the veil off and put a flower in my hair. I think it depends on what makes you comfortable. But it is a good suggestion of seeing what hair style you want and seeing if it changes your view or not.

I'm not doing a veil....(not a fan of the tradition behind it), but it's interesting that you posted the question if anyone had regrets if they didn't.....I'm curious to see the responses! great question!

<div>I got married in June on the Beach.  It was kind of windy, but not too bad.  I had safety pins with me, just in case it got really bad and I had to hold the veil down.  I also had a shoulder length veil so that may have helped.  I will say that some of the best wedding pictures I have seen, have been with veils blowing in the wind, I don't know something about it just looks pretty to me.  </div>

i plan on only wearing mine during ceremony and photos - after that it's hats off....of veils off in this situation. i see it as an annoyance but the traditionalist part of me thinks it looks "nice" in photos and such.....

if you dont like any of them then dont get one. i love seeing big flowers in the hair more than any veil i've seen

I am actually not having a veil.  I tried a few on and my mom said I looked like a nun. LOL.  So no I wont regret it but I think my headpieces is very classic.

i really didnt want a veil because i knew i would take it off for the reception. my mom was dead set against me wearing a veil at least for pics and ceremony. i have to say that i'm glad i went with the veil. when i look at the pics with the veil, it just looks classic - i know if i didnt wear one i would have regretted it. i did take it off for the reception though because i didnt want it in my way as i was dancing

VEIL!!!! Stand out as a bride, not a guest in a nice gown,  in fact I only wore mine until after chruch (cathedral) but wished it was on until after pics at venue.... just so stunning..

My sister skipped it for hers and I'm 95% sure I'll be doing the same for mine. She didn't miss it at all! I tried a few on and they were nice, but I'd only wear it for the ceremony and I'd rather spend the money on something else to be honest.

Thanks ladies...I'm still not sure.  If I wear one at all I know it will only be for pictures and ceremony.  My friend got married last year and has a veil almost identical to the one I liked the best of them and she told me I could borrow it (and it's not like I'm spending any money on it). I guess I'll bring it when I do my hair trial and when I go for my fitting.  I'll have to see if I'm a veil-wearing bride.

I have heard that the veil makes you feel more bridal, but I'm not sure if it's me.  I loved hearing everyone's opinions - thanks!

I felt ridiculous in a veil, no matter what the style was, I went with a flower instead, more my style  :)

My friend wore a flower for her wedding (your dress and flower remind me a lot of hers) and it looked great.  My dress has a lot of beading and I think a flower wouldn't work but I picked up a hair comb with pearls and crystals on it...I was thinking of going with that.  It'll dress up my hair, but I feel like you - the veil looked a little ridiculous - I don't know if it was with my dress or just me.

I haven't ruled it out, but I'm leaning toward head piece/comb in lieu of viel.

I have been thinking of this as well. I think I want to do a bird cage veil but I want to see my dress again before I make that decision. My dress is supposed to be in around Christmas.

This is from when I first went and tried on the dress....not crazy about the picture of me...but it gives you an ideaLaughing  The second picture has the best of the veils I tried on.

    No veil.  Honestly.

Flower or clip, but I've also had a few glasses of wine and that's the first thing that came to my mind lol.  The dress is stunning and you'll look amazing in whatever you choose!!!

I think you definitely need a veil, your dress is very sexy/evening gownish - stand out as a bride!   I lucked out and wore my moms mantila veil from the 60's (she loved that)  then for the reception I wore a flower.  My dress was evening gownish too.  Borrow your friends!
