Civil Wedding Officiants - Suggestions?

Hey there,

The fiance and I have opted for a civil wedding, completely non-religious, and are thus obviously looking for a civil union officiant to conduct the ceremony. While there is a family friend who is a minister who could probably conduct the ceremony (haven't asked), I would really much prefer to completely sever any and all ties to religious affliations by choosing someone who is not a minister/rabbi/etc.

Browsing around for someone, a lot of pages are "Please send us an email if you want an officiant!" rather than personalized pages that detail out possible officiants. That personal touch seems to be really lacking from everything I've found thus far.

Does anyone here have suggestions, either from their own personal experiences or their friend's/family's experiences or..however you might know about them?

They would appreciated and help my searching considerably :)

Also, check out some bridal shows. We've been to a few where there were officiants. We were able to chat with them and get a feel for how they work.

At the moment, we are probably going to have a friend marry us, but we, um, haven't asked him yet. Oops.

You can always have a friend ordained online... :D
