plus sized bridesmaid dresses

One of my bridesmaids, however she is about 5'7" ish and 300 lbs. I'm concerned about finding a dress to fit her. Any suggestions on where to look for dresses? Thanks!

Re: plus sized bridesmaid dresses

  • As a former plus sized bridesmaid and now a plus sized bride, I would recommend choosing a designer that can fit various sizes. Every wedding I've been in has been a BM dress from David's Bridal. That said, now that I'm looking for my own girls, Bill Levkoff goes up to size 28 in certan styles. I am choosing the color and fabric and letting the girls pick which style they like the best.

You don't want to offend her so do your research before hand and pick something with all of your girls in mind. Try to also shop where there is a selection of plus sized dresses. There's nothing worse than going to the dress shop and finding out that she can't fit into any of the samples.
  • Yikes. There's a whole bunch of craziness in that post that I won't touch.

Regarding sizes, many designer's make plus sized gowns. First, find out from her what size she wears. Then try to find which designer's carry her size. From looking at the website, it looks like Alferd Angelo has up to 30W in some dresses and David's Bridal has to at least 26, maybe higher.

Speak to her in private about this.
  • Wow, I have to say this question is incredibly rude.

[QUOTE]My fiance's sister is one of my bridesmaids, however she is about 5'7" ish and 300 lbs. I'm concerned about finding a dress to fit her, while not embarrassing her too. Do designers make bridesmaids dresses for woman in that weight range, or will she have to have a dress custom made? I want all of my girls to wear the same dress (the other girls are of average height and weight). The wedding will not be for a year and a half, but I don't want to count on her loosing weight. Any suggestions on where to look for dresses? Thanks!

<div>I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume that you are trying to consider your FSIL's feelings.  But you need to stop tossing around the term obese, that is just rude.  Rlavach gave you good advice. Find a bridal shop that carries plus-size samples, Russell's in Linden is one.  Also consider choosing a designer and a color and fabric and let your BMs choose their own style.</div><div>

I dont think this question was rude.  It's an honest question that not too many girls are faced with in their bridal parties.  You want to be sure you pick a flattering dress for everyone no matter what their body type is.  Whether you are big or small sometimes it's hard trying to figure out what designers carry what sizes.  How would you have worded this question to make it sound "nicer"?</div>

The OP was edited and from the time stamp on your message, I believe it was edited before you commented. It was unintentionally snippy before.<div>
</div><div>I agree with the PP regarding not having them all in the same dress. When I was a BM, there were 4 of us. Two were plus sized, two weren't. The two plus girls got the same dress & the two non-plus girls got their own same dresses. Both dresses were the same color/fabric/length. That's a bit matchy matchy for me, but I had no choice...</div>

Yes I agree, she may not have seen the original post? It came off incredibly rude. JCG quoted it above.
  • I would def consider letting the girls pick their own dresses in the color and fabric of your choice. It's very difficult to find one universal style that will compliment each body type. Be sure that whatever you end up doing, she has the option to wear a bolero or cover up if she'd like. It's really important to make sure that your wedding party feels just as comfortable and confident as you do on that day. Don't forget, people ate looking at them too, they are having numerous pictures taken of them and they are standing up with you. It's essential that she not feel anything but joy on that day as well :o) Best wishes!!!!
