Addressing Invitations

Hey everyone,
I fell in love with and eventually decided on letterpress invitations.  Now, I'm thinking about addressing them and was considering printing them (on my printer) vs using a calligrapher.  Do you guys think that's tacky? How much would a typical calligrapher charge to address 115 invitations?

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Cat

Calligraphers vary in price, I was quoted a very reasonable price by Michele Clark, she is in Staten Island and was wonderful to work with.  A lot of girls on this board have used her.  I've also seen prices as high as $4.00 just for the outer envelope.  I would get some quotes and decide if it's worth it for you.

    Here is Michele's email address:

I'm printing my envelopes myself. I would love to do a calligrapher, but I rather have the money go to something else. Most people throw out the envelopes anyway.

Thanks for the info girls.  I think I kind of agree with you Jenna... although I will check out Michele to see whether calligraphy is something I want to spend money on...

The only thing I find tacky is labels, personally. I used my printer to print our envelopes ... no way was I paying someone to hand-address paper that'd just be thrown straight in the trash.

If I didn't print them at home (which nearly happened, because my computer was a PITA the entire time), I would've just hand-addressed them carefully. Or asked my mom to do it since she has great handwriting.

<div>I agree! If I had an unlimited budget this would be something I would get done. But I am working on a budget and don't want to spend money on paper that will be thrown away. I will most likely be handwriting the addresses. </div>

have you considered recruiting a friend with good handwritting? A calligraphy pen can make almost any handwriting look pretty... Theres just a certain charm to hand-addressed envelopes, calligrapher or not.

I ordered letterpress invitations and just got the envelopes printed at the invitation store (The Papery) on their printers and they looked great. I think they charge about $1.00 per envelope.

If you can print them yourself directly onto the envelope (not labels!) and have enough extras just in case of mistakes, then it may be worth saving money. If you don't want the hassle, try the Papery stores (Summit, Denville, Princeton, Sea Girt, Shrewsbury). I was really happy with the way my turned out.

I love calligraphy, but I couldn't justify spending the extra money on it.

i totally think calligraphy is a waste of money.. spend it on something that wont be in the garbage in 30 seconds! download a fancy font from dafont.com and print them yourself most caligraphers will do that anyway
