Wedding Dress Shopping

Good morning! I'm new to this board as I just got engaged about a month ago! This weekend I am going wedding drop shopping for the first time in the Durham/ Raleigh area. I was thinking of starting at A Bridal World in Raleigh. I wanted to see if anyone has been there or if anyone has any other recommendations? I don't have too much of a idea of what I want so I want to go somewhere where someone can help me. I also though am on a tight budget. I know Bridal Mart is a good place to look but I think that would be overwhelming for my first store when I don't know what I am looking for really. Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Bridal Mart would probably be fine if you could go during the week -- the sales people aren't busy and could help more then.  But on a weekend, I would say you would probably be overwhelmed, and the sales people wouldn't really be able to help.

Can't help with the Raleigh stores, but good luck and have fun!  Also, welcome to the board!

Welcome! I went to A Bridal World once and it was okay.  I wanted a non-traditional dress and I had a hard time finding ANYTHING to even try on there.  You're right that it is small, and it might be a good place for your first time.  I found my dress at Bridal Boutique of Raleigh (on Hillsborough St).  It's also small, but they had a lot more "modern" dresses and they have a sale rack, which was pretty cool.  I also loved Carolina Bridal World (in Smithfield near the outlets) and Bridal Mart (Burlington), which are bigger, but not SO overwhelming if you kind of know what you're looking for.  HTH!

Welcome to the board! I 'found' my dress at 'A Bridal World', but bought it online at 'NetBride.com' because it was much more affordable that way.

When I went there, they were just then moving into their new store so things were hectic, but I was told to look through the gowns and if I saw any I liked, someone could help me.  Someone did help me and she was very sweet and helpful.

Thats about as far as I can go because like I said, I bought the dress online instead of through the store.

There's always Davids Bridal and I think if you google bridal salons, in the area you're looking for, some will pop up.

    Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the board. Congrats on your engagement!!
only bit of advice I have for you is:
    1) plan your day out
    2) set appointments

Some places won't see you if you don't have an apt.  It makes it easier to have a game plan that way you won't be wasting your time driving all over creation!

Best of Luck--I'm only speaking from experience!

Welcome to the board and congrats on your recent engagement!  Just beware that dress shopping on the weekends is going to overwhelming in itself because all dress shops are SUPER BUSY on the weekends.  Good luck though...I would try to make an appointment so that you will have your own personal consultant to help you.  Let us know how it all goes for you!

Thanks everyone! I am going to talk to my mom and sister tonight and see if we can go to Smithfield to Carolina Bridal World. I don't think they take appointments but I am going to double check. Hopefully if we plan to be there right when they open it won't be super crowded.  I think this will be a good starting point for me. Thanks for the advice and welcomes!

I agree with trying Bridal Mart in Burlington.  But no matter where you go, I suggest checking Pearls's place to compare prices.  The are based in LA, but ship all over.  I got my mori lee dress for $300 at Pearl's place when it was selling for $350-$500 else where.  Itcame in a month early and looks great!

I went yesterday to Carolina Bridal World in Smithfield and it great. We lucked out and it wasn't that busy in the morning when they opened. I found a Mori Lee dress that I really like but want to look a few other places. Thanks everyone for the advice!
