reception venue near Elizabeth, NJ?

looking for a low-cost reception venue within 20 minutes of Elizabeth, NJ.  trying to keep the entire reception (125 guests) under $3,000, so we need a venue that is very inexpensive.  don't want to do the reception outside.

When you say the "entire reception", do you mean everything including photographer, DJ, etc, or do you just mean the reception hall and food?
For 125 guests, $3000 would mean about $24pp for just the food/location.
I am not sure you will find that anywhere, unless maybe you did a brunch, and even then, $24 pp would be pushing it. You might be better off renting a hall such as a Knights of Columbus and then just getting the food catered.

I would look into some restaurants in Newark and see what they can do for you. My favorite Newark restaurant is Taste of Portugal.

But like Cindy said, $24pp is pretty hard to get. I would ask about brunch and lunch options, but at $24 you might be limited to something small like cake and fruit, with coffee and maybe some champagne or wine.

Ditto about renting a hall. Get a local small restaurant or a deli to cater.

I agree with both previous posts. 24/pp is going to be tough. Look into renting a hall and having it catered or inquire about a breakfast/brunch wedding.

Theres a few- The Kenilworth in is very inexpensive and on the border of Elizabeth, La Affaire, The Westwood, Gran Centurians and maybe Galloping Hill Inn. The Kenilworth Inn is probably around $60 pp. Galloping Hill has great food and La Affaire has good foor and is around $60 pp. GL!

There is no way you could get The Westwood, La Affaire or Gran Centurions for $24 pp.

mbcdefg  - I was thinking the restaurant idea, but big enough to hold 125 people? I guess you'd have to rent out the entire restaurant, and then there wouldn't be a dance floor or anything...

I'm sure there are some restaurants in NJ that can cater a group this size. Either a smaller restaurant where you can rent out the whole place, or a bigger restaurant that has a party room. She might have to deal with a "banquet menu" but they might have a lunch or simple dinner option for under $30pp.

I looked up Taste of Portugal and their website says they can fit 100 people. The last time I was there, I saw a bride coming in for her reception. I would also inquire with Sol-Mar, also in Newark.

Ria Mar in South River. FSIL had her wedding there, and I'm assuming it was less than $30 pp. It might be a little further away than you'd like though,

What about Galloping HIll Inn? We were considering them for our engagement party and their prices were very reasonable. They're in Union.

OOh, never been there, but it looks interesting. We always go to dinner at Europa across the street.
They might be able to do a party there as well.
