Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

programs... necessary?

I don't want to leave it out totally, but our ceremony is going to be very short and sweet, to the point so a play by play probably isnt needed... I do still want to have something for guests to highlight my bridal party and relatives that are no longer with us... any sugguestions? I am looking for something a little different but not to off the wall. Thanks in advance!!

Re: programs... necessary?

  • No, they aren't necessary..especially if you aren't performing any customs or traditions that need to be explained to guests. I posted something very similar to this while I was in the planning stage... my dilema was that programs that I wanted to have printed were going to be a bit expensive. (of course I did them anyway!) Someone made a suggestion that I make a larger display as guests walk into where the ceremony will be that lists who's in the wedding party...etc. Kinda the same idea as this: http://www.alannahrose.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/love-light-a1-seating-chart1.jpg But with different info.

  • Don't know why "" showed up in that link, but if you remove them, the link should work.

  • I'm 90% sure that we are doing a display poster type thing when guests walk in. We're getting a picture done by an artist we found on Etsy.com and using the image for our save the dates and then for the poster. We've thought about making it look like a movie poster to highlight the wedding party and it'll look fun. Plus the recycler in me won't be sad when I see all of the programs that people leave behind or throw away.
  • I think this can be something very simple.  You don't have to go crazy with it, but it is nice to have as a keep sake.
  • Its  not needed. I'm having an hour long ceremony and I dont see the point in it. I think I've only been to 1 wedding that had it. I wanted to do butterflies for my wedding and hand out a poem to everyone about the meaning of the butterfly release at a wedding. But we decided not to have butterflies b/c they get confused and dont fly out right when you release them, but anyway, You can pass out some kind collage with photos and names for the people to see on some nice paper or something. Make a scroll. Or at the entrance of your reception, some kind of poster. gl
  • We are using wicker fans because it's an outdoor wedding. Instead of printing programs (my ceremony is short too) we are printing small cards that are about 3 x2" and we're tying them to the wicker fans with organza ribbon. I think that the wedding party is important and the relation. I'm in my bffs wedding in september and I want people knowing I'm the maid of honor. I think it's more important to distinguish the maid of honor and best man from the rest of the party. That's the main reason i'm doing the cards. I know noone really cares but I do and my girls do. I wanna give them a shout out! lol
  • stagemanager14 - Yea we decided it would be horrible. I love butterflies so much and thats why I wanted it to be a part of my wedding but again I love them and I wouldnt want to kill them like that! Its horrible when I found out what they grow through. But anyway, my fiance is Native American and I found this poem/story about the butterfly "If anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and whisper that wish to it. Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all. In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirit always grants the wish. So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted"I thought it was so beautiful! So I was going to make little scrolls with the saying on it so that they can read it coming into the church and then on the way out they get the butterfly and make the wish and release it. But I dont think they wish will come true when they see the poor butterfly crashing down! lolSo we just put butterflies on our cake.
  • That's a really sweet idea! I love it but yea that would kinda put a damper on things if they all came crashing to the ground!
