What county/city? Is in-house catering needed?

Also, you shouldn't be throwing your own bridal shower. Did the hostess(es) ask you to help find a venue, or are you taking it upon yourself to book everything? Unless they've asked you for help (and even then you shouldn't be doing too much), put the brakes on right now and stay out of the plans.

150 people for a shower is INSANE. I hope that this is within a reasonable budget for whoever's hosting this.

What area of the state? I know you said North Jersey, but can you be more specific? Newark area, Morristown, Newton, Mahwah, etc?

Do you want something like a VFW hall, or a restaurant where you get the whole place/a big room to yourselves, or a catering hall?

Nobody is going to know you helped pick the venue, or helped with anything else.. so don't worry about that.. as long as you don't send out the invites yourself with YOU as the RSVP contact! lol
150 is a lot of people for a bridal shower though.. are you sure you need to invite that many? And do you plan on opening all of the gifts? That is going to take a pretty loooong time.
If you can give us specific towns you are interested in, that would be helpful.
