NWR: Help with party venue in Central/North Jersey Area

Hey gals,
I'm in the middle of planning my mom's 60th birthday and since this board was such a tremendous help when I was planning my wedding I though I'd reach out and see if I could get help again (Apologies in advance if I'm violating TOS).

I'm looking for a reception venue for approximately 80 people with a dance floor that charges <$50 per plate for buffet including tax and gratuity.  Initially, I was considering Seabra's Armory in Perth Amboy (because of the DELICIOUS food and sangria) but a) it's a little farther than I was hoping, b) the drive takes you through not-so-great neighborhoods, c) the place was a little run down and d) the room they chose was too small.

So now I'm back to square one.  I'm going to look into Snuffy's Pantagis but in the meantime, I was hoping you ladies might have some more recommendations.  The area I'm interested in includes Union County (Summit, Millburn, Chatham, Scotch Plains, Berkeley Heights, etc) and Hudson County (Waterside onl - Jersey City, Weehawken) and I would consider unconventional venues as long as the catering wasn't too much of a hassle.  I'm aiming to have the party on March 31st (I know! Short notice) so an indoor venue would probably be best because of the weather (although I wouldn't totally rule out an outdoor venue).

Ideally, I'd love to have it at stone house in stirling ridge, or at liberty house in jersey city, or at some rustic waterside oasis but I won't kid myself about the prices of those venues.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, even if you can only point me in the direction of a more appropriate forum.

Thanks in advance ladies!

Catalina

Hey!!  No worries, this is totally a legit question.  :-)  You might want to try TN as well.

As for suggestions, what about the Grain House at the Olde Mill Inn?  If they don't have a wedding they might be willing to give you a deal.  I considered them for the RD and they had buffet packages under $50pp.

Grand Summit Hotel? Berkeley Plaza? Dolce in Basking Ridge?

There's a Seabra's in Newark (I think it's at the intersection of Rt. 21 and Bridge St., so not a bad area), but no idea if it's related to the one in Perth Amboy or if it's good.

  • Seabras 21 is now called rio rodizio .. Haven't been there since they changed ownership so no help on the food.. But what about Galloping Hill or Costa Del Sol in Union.
  • The Best Western at Murray Hill Inn (in New Providence) has a bunch of rooms - they will also rent the restaurant out (Ponte Vecchio).  We had my grandmother's 90th birthday in one of the "party rooms" and they were pretty affordable and BYOB so you can bring whatever alcohol you want to serve and not pay typical restaurant markups.
  • Try the Empire Club or Pucchini's in Jersey City.

  • How about the Imperia in Somerset? I went to an awards dinner there and it was lovely
  • Thanks for all the help ladies, I will look into these places! :)
  • Thanks for all the help ladies! I actually ended up finding a GREAT deal on a beautiful space at Solar Do Minho in Roselle Park.  If I'd known about it before I got married, I would definitely have considered it!
